I just polished off King's Quest III.  Moving on to Leisure Suit Larry I.  No, seriously.

I recently rediscovered my love of the old Sierra Adventures, and since there were a few that I had never gotten around to playing, I spent some time locating a copy of every single adventure game they released (though I have yet to dig up Woodruff and the Schnibble.)  Now I'm playing through all of them in order of release, and having a nostalgic blast.

I did take a break for a couple of days to play through Wing Commander I, though.
You DO know Sierra recently released entire collections for Space Quest, Kings Quest, Police Quest, and Leisure Suit Larry for $20 a pop, right? They even work with modern-day computers. :^)

Erogath

World of Warcraft while at home, otherwise at work I just picked up a nintendo DS and almost have Children of Mana beat.  Frankly I'm not impressed with it, hoping the new one for the xbox360 will be massively improved ^_^

Of course I do, you silly (Pak) man!  And they all work with modern computers if you have the capabilities to install DOSBox (i.e., opposable thumbs.)

As it happened, I already own copies of nearly all of those.  I did end up buying the Space Quest collection, since there were a few in that series I'd never bothered with.  But that didn't help me a bit in obtaining Gold Rush!, or Manhunter, or Willy Beamish.

It should be noted that Vivendi doesn't give a rat's ass for Sierra's storied history, as I believe they flubbed every one of those collections in some way.  The original Space Quest I EGA is not included in the Space Quest collection, for instance, despite the fact that its uncompressed size clocks in at a massive 652 KB.  Weak.  I was annoyed at even giving them my paltry 20 bones, save for the thought that perhaps in some way some tiny bit of the take would trickle down to the original authors.

I'll agree with that. I first heard about it when it showed up at Amazon, com in late '05. Vivendi refused to confirm or deny the collections were being released while the date kept being pushed back further and further. When they were finally released, they didn't even give it a passing mention in their newsletter or advertise it. They just kinda showed up in stores one day.

But I can forgive all that. What I can't forgive was that there were no hard-copies of the instruction manuals. Would that have been too much? Especially in game series where the instruction manuals were actually necessary to win. I have to either print out a couple hundred pages, or figure out which pages I need for copy protection before I can play some of those old gems. And while I'm at it, I'd love to see Lucasarts give some of their old SCUMM games some love. I'd like to play the Indiana Jones games, and it's been ages since they've been rereleased. I'm just glad I scooped up the Monkey Madness collection while I could. :^)

Well...I can't reply to that, but I can say I'm playing some serious Call Of Duty 3 and Guitar Hero 2. ROCK BAND FTW! ;D

Well, whether it's geeky or not , I'm a big fan of the Nancy Drew PC games - woohoo!

This is right before you have to disarm the bomb!     AGAIN!

In later games, they even make a (less than successful attempt) to throw in the Hardy Boys, but even their very talented team of 3d artists can't mask their femininity.

I suspect so.  Manuals = printing costs, which means they get a little less profit out of these obvious cash grabs.  Personally, I'm just glad they bothered to include PDFs at all.  It means a little less time waiting for the overtaxed replacementdocs servers.

By the way, you can frequently find the copy protection questions distilled down to the bare minimum on gamefaqs these days.  Or, if you have a portable device with a PDF reader, you could always use that for reference.

*sigh*  I miss the olden days when you'd get all sorts of crazy crap in your game box.  Posters, maps, fake pills, fake newspapers, ankhs, 3-D glasses.  The golden age of gaming is long gone, I'm afraid.

Sweeeeeeeeet,

May they sell half a million of them, and inspire some of the other game publishers to pull their heads out.

There's an interesting looking Adventure game on the horizon called A Vampyre Story, it's by (yet another) one of the former LucasArts guys.  The website's a little out of date, but they have some very nice screen shots posted there:

Wow.  That looks promising.  The art design is indeed very LucasArtsian.  Those storyboards are pretty lame, though.  Hopefully, they're from early on in the process.

Perfect Dark beaches.

In all of its 3fps glory.

Crusader

...the fun times...regarding the craptastic framerate of Perfect Dark, how I do remember that. Also, if you didn't have the 4meg expansion pack, didn't you only have access to something like 13% of the game? I remember some silly statistic concerning that.

I haven't been really playing much lately. Some MarioKart across any Nintendo platform is a must, but besides that I'm eagerly awaiting the release date of the second chapter of Half-Life 2 so I can do some battling w/ the Hunters.

Then it's onto Warhammer Online and the full scale RvR next summer.
