Yambaó! No, it's not a dopey social media app you'd never heard of until it was purchased by Google for billions of dollars. Nor is it a miracle cleaning solution sold in 90s infomercials for only $19.99, including a bonus travel-sized tube of Yambaó. Yambaó, quite simply, is Yambaó, and there's nothing else quite like Yambaó. It's also entirely possible we just enjoy saying Yambaó.

Yambaó (AKA Cry of the Bewitched, but why would you call it that when you can call it Yambaó) takes place on a sugarcane plantation in Cuba in the 1850s, and centers on the love triangle between a master, one of his slaves, and Yambaó, the mysterious dancing granddaughter of a sorceress who lives in the wilderness - yeah, we know, another one of those dang Cuban plantation witch love triangle movies we're always doing. It's weird, it's fun, it's flirty, there's a cave granny with evil magic powers, it's Yambaó!

IMDb says the actress who played Yambao, who was born in 1921, is still alive and acting on TV. Impressive.

Conversely, the male lead, who was also in The Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy, was killed by a jealous ex-husband a couple of years after that movie.

Shouldn't there be a "brief nudity" warning for this vod?

I have this on DVD with Mermaids of Tiburon. I started to watch it one night but didn't finish, thinking it's too bad Rifftrax never does this kind of movie. I'm glad they have.

Is there supposed to be an HD version? Has it not been uploaded yet?

It is there. Did you accidentally buy just the standard?  I downloaded mine hours ago.

To be honest though it is a pretty lousy HD...  I know that the film is what it is but it really just looks like something upconverted. Sometimes that grain is so bad it is like watching through a screen door.

Agreed. I felt a little cheated when I saw that. They shouldn't offer an HD option if the film isn't HD quality.

Lots of singing, lots of dancing. Wow.  Fun rifftrax.

Never even heard of this movie. How is the film itself? I'd prefer riffings of films that are also enjoyable in their own right (BLOODLUST, REVENGE OF THE CREATURE).

That's a pretty subjective call, isn't it? You'll find this film enjoyable if you like campy Mexican films set in Cuba.

The movie is.... painful.

Very painful.

I need to watch it again to really formulate my thoughts on it and the riff but, it's a toughie.

Experience. Films I find at most entertaining enough on their own tend to work best when being riffed. Easier to enjoy.
