'Power Rangers' Movie Enlists 'X-Men' Writers

QuoteAdditionally, Roberto Orci is joining the film as an executive producer and will develop the story with Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz.

Okay, I give Orci some leeway due to his work on Fringe. I'm holding out a little more hope that this might actually be good.

Really, all I want is a Power Rangers movie where both fans AND doubters walk out saying how awesome it actually was.

Okay, I'm gonna stop all this Power Rangers talk for the night, and get back to watching Dengeki Sentai Changeman.

[edit] I forgot to mention how relatively stunned I was that he "split" from Kurtzman. For as long as I can remember (I can only remember as far back as Alias. Everything in life prior to Alias is a blur....) It's been Kurtzman/Orci (and Orci's brother Orci) .... Crazy. [/edit]

I'm VERY glad to hear that they plan to keep it within the already-existing canon of continuity... and yes, Ranger fans ARE rabid about that sort of stuff.  Samurai kind of glazed over some retcon with RPM, forcing it into an "alternate future" and fans went apeshit psycho-angry.
( there's this:  http://timeline.rovang.org/ for example )

The REALLY SAD part of that article is that Saban wants it to be like it was in seasons 1-4/5 and also 18-21 (current)... in that he doesn't realize that the core audience actually happens to be the fans who STARTED watching with seasons 1-5... and are a lot older now.  Kids watch yes.... but the "fans" are people like me.  I'm sure (considering the direction he immediately took the series when he got it back with s18) he'll insist on a dumbed down "after school special" feel to it.

I'll put my faith in Orci and his folks. But I have NO faith in Saban.

Roberto Orci's 'Star Trek 3′ Commitment Knocks Him Out Of 'Power Rangers' Pic
Quote from: Mike Fleming Jr
EXCLUSIVE:
Roberto Orci has dropped out of Power Rangers because his Star Trek 3 directing obligation has created a scheduling conflict. He'll no longer be exec producer of the film. It doesn't change Lionsgate and Haim Saban's intention to release Power Rangers worldwide on July 22, 2016. Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz, who penned the screenplays for X-Men: First Class and Thor, will continue to write the script. Saban, who hatched the Power Rangers franchise, is producing with Brian Casentini, head of development and production for Saban Brands, and Allison Shearmur, who oversaw The Hunger Games when she was President of Production at Lionsgate. Erik Feig, Co-President of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, and Jim Miller, Lionsgate's EVP Production & Development, will oversee the project for the studio.

The film is a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world.

Well that kind of sucks. I was relying on him to buffer the film from Saban influence.

I'm still keeping hope, considering all the other people involved... as long as Tzachor stays far far away from this thing.

Check out Jetman. That's one of my personal favourites. It's the season RIGHT before the one turned into MMPR,s1. It's one of the first ones to be really quirky in terms of character and little story lines, while the seasons prior to it were just goofy when it came to effects and the like.... but it's also one of the darkest seasons.

I definitely wanna check that one out sometime, looks cool. For earlier shows I've seen Liveman and Kamen Rider Black which were fun.

Big shock there. Who would have guessed JDF would cameo in the new movie?!

Okay, so yeah, that was kind of expected... What would be more of a shock is if David Yost said he would cameo. He's not really on the best terms with Saban for very good reason....

JDF is the one of the whole entire series to have done and continues to do the MOST in regards to PR fandom and promotion. He's sort of an ambassador of sorts. He's also friggin awesome.

Would kill to see a Johnny Yong Bosch cameo. Still weird seeing him in the first PR movie going "I'm a frog" and then he became known for lending his pipes to Vash The Stampede et al.
