Yeah I hope there is a straightforward way to upgrade it to HD later on.

I dunno, respectfully, it seems good enough to me as it is, not really sure it needs to be in HD. The movie is such a trainwreck that HD probably wouldn't help it at all. Then again, I get that people have personal preferences. I'm just curious as to why THIS VOD needs to be in HD while the vast majority of VODs aren't in HD.

PS It should be noted that I have a bias in this subject. I still watch VHS tapes regularly. Not exclusively, just whenever it's more convenient than downloading a movie I already own and if the tape still works, so I admit that maybe I have lower standards than most in this regard.

It is not so much that anything "has" to be in HD but if something is available (or soon to be) it is "nice" to have it HD. Especially if there are flaws in the master video that RiffTrax uses. As long as Action Batch's screencaps are accurate the non-anamorphic DVD looks better than the VOD for Super Mario to me.  There have been a couple other VODs in the recent past where the original DVD looks better than the VOD release. Viva Knievel has a little picture squish happening that isn't present on the released DVD for sure.

For me, HD is an excuse for me to spend more time dicking around with Rifftrax on my computer  ;D

Yup.  Same here.  I pretty much have everything that is available in HD converted. Now I am going back and going from 720p to 1080p on as many as I can.   I have some pretty good settings for encoding and I get 1080p files down to a pretty good file size and still have excellent PQ.

Just don't do it too much, you could go blind.

How odd, I was just looking up freebie riffs of this movie on youtube a few weeks ago. I'm sure the Rifftrax version is completely superior though.

OH MAN! This is a total bummer. I really hope he got to see the riff before he left us.

Oooh, good point. He seems to have no fondness for how the movie turned out or the filming experience. And I think he has a pretty good sense of humor about his work in general.

I wonder if Leguizamo knows about the riff? I think he'd get a kick out of it, except that they were quite harsh on him (unfairly in my opinion).

No, Leguizamo got the right amount of harshness his duck-voice deserved.

RIP, Bob.  I'll watch Roger Rabbit tomorrow to make up for watching Super Mario Bros. most recently.

It was kind of funny to see Leguizamo speak so fondly of the Mario experience today on Twitter.

He probably had a nice time hanging out with Hopkins on and off set. But apparently the filming itself was TORCHA!

Watched and really enjoyed last night. The best riff so far this year despite not having a clue what was going on. I'm not familiar out all with the video games but still found it hilarious. Is there really a video game with a giant gooey anus creature?

Weird but the first riff I caught directly aimed at Hoskins was about him dying and his soul leaving (because of this movie).

Trekker4747

Virtually nothing from the game makes it into the movie.  The "closest" they come is when Mario and Luigi don the coveralls going into the climax and the look of the Bob-Omb.

I hope Bob Hoskins and Captain Lou Albano are doing the Mario together in heaven.  :'(

(BTW, you should probably also watch Bob Hoskins in something like Mona Lisa or The Long Good Friday if you haven't already done so.)

The Captain did do a much better job as Mario than Hoskins, but then again, that was his job. Hoskins' job was to NOT be like Mario AT ALL, so you can't really blame him. Albano said he loved his time as Mario and Hoskins says he hated his.
