I wouldn't say the soundtrack appears as kick-ass as the one from Guardians of the Galaxy, but Debarge? Muddy Magnolias and the classic theme by Ray Parker jr? Pretty cool at least.  :)

Was at Supanova today (Comicon-ish pop culture convention) and enjoyed the ridiculous rage of 3 separate groups of gamerbros in the Pop Vinyl stand over Ghostbusters figures while I was looking for a Robocop, 10th Doctor or Jack Burton figure.  Surprisingly even though people in at least 2 of the groups noticed me laughing at them they were less inclined to call me a "cuck" or "beta" in real life as they seem to be on Twitter

Why is "supporting all female casts" even remotely a valid reason for seeing a movie? Movies aren't free.

Edward J Grug III

I think it's a valid reason - Same as say, seeing a locally made film, or shopping at a local business. But it's not the reason I'm going - I'm going because I expect it to be good.

I just don't care. Make the movie good. I'm not seeing something like this as a "statement" because nobody gives a shit.

Edward J Grug III

Sure, because you're from the single most represented demographic in cinema.

I wouldn't say that. Grumpy people are tragically under-represented in cinema. :)

Who gives a shit? It's such a non issue. It's not like we're all being forced to go see movies.

It's a non issue to you.

I'm all for feminism where it matters. Equal rights under the law. Non invasive legislation. Equal pay for equal work.

But movies? Really? No, it's a non issue.

Edward J Grug III

I don't know why you think representation doesn't matter, but again, it doesn't matter to you. It matters to plenty of other people, especially those that aren't the representation default.

But even from a non representation stand point, women are under paid in Hollywood, where they are also seen as less bankable and get less opportunities for work, even though, for example, Melissa McCarthy is one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood currently.

Ghostbusters being a huge success will help in that regard too.

What's important to bear in mind is that it's just a comedy about four friends catching ghosts. That's how I see it anyways.

Because movies have a cultural impact. Art imitates life, then life imitates art. If life keeps imitating art wherein guys do the guy jobs and girls do the girl jobs, then the mentality remains set that there are guy jobs and girl jobs. Case in point- we are still in a cultural space where if a movie that is not extremely feminine dares to sport a leading cast of 4 females, a lot of people think it's a gimmick rather than a casting choice. Make the same movie with 4 guys and nobody bats an eye.

Does that mean this movie will be good? No. But it doesn't mean it'll be bad either, and that's where the battle lies.
