BREAKING: Johnny Football enters rehab treatment
Posted: Feb 02, 2015 10:44 AM EST Updated: Feb 02, 2015 11:43 AM EST

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - Cleveland Browns quarterback, Johnny Manziel has entered rehab, according to a statement released Monday morning.

Brad Beckworth, a friend and advisor to Johnny Manziel and his family released the following statement:

"Johnny knows there are areas he needs to improve on to help him be a better family member, friend and teammate, so he decided to take this step in his life during the offseason. On behalf of Johnny and his family, we're asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland."

Cleveland Browns General Manager Ray Farmer had this to say:

"We respect Johnny's initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process. Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns. We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player. Johnny's privacy will be respected by us during this very important period and we hope that others will do the same."

Johnny's short time with the Browns has been quite tumultuous. Let's take a look back...

April 23-24, 2014: The former Texas A&M quarterback first met with Cleveland Browns team officials in April of last year. The Cleveland visit was just one of many he made in preparation for the draft.

May 8, 2014: A few weeks later, 6-0, 210-pound Manziel was selected with the 22nd overall pick, the second of the Browns' two first-round selections. The Browns traded up to get him.

June 17, 2014: The Cleveland Browns agreed to terms with QB Johnny Manziel. He would be is competing with Brian Hoyer for the starting QB position.

July 1, 2014: Cops were called to a party Johnny Manziel was attending. He was reportedly hanging out with Justin Bieber at his condo in Beverly Hills along with boxing champ Floyd Mayweather and Fast and Furious movie actor Tyrese Gibson. At the time Johnny said, 'he's just living his life.'

Aug. 20, 2014: Brian Hoyer named starting quarterback for the Browns.

Dec. 9, 2014: No more sidelines for Johnny Manziel. It was announced that Johnny Football and his jersey -- which had been a top-seller all season-- would start in he Browns game against the Cincinnati Bengals at First Energy Stadium.

Dec. 22, 2014: After playing seven quarters as quarterback, Browns head coach Mike Pettine has announced that quarterback Johnny Manziel will be shut down for the year due to the hamstring injury he suffered in the game against the Carolina Panthers. He finished the year throwing 18-of-35 for 175 yards, 0 touchdowns, 2 interceptions, and 1 fumble. Manziel also added 29 yards on the ground with a touchdown.

Dec. 28, 2014: Travelling with the team for their last game of the season, Manziel missed hamstring treatment and was fined. Sources say Manziel had a party the night before and Josh Gordon attended. Both players said that was not true.

Jan. 23, 2015: Browns players reportedly lashed out against Manziel in an ESPN report. ESPN.com reports that Manziel was so late to meetings, it was hard to say how many times he had been fined. There are quotes from players saying Manziel's rookie season was a "100% joke". The article claims that veteran players did not want to play for Manziel because his preparation was not good, he did not know the plays or call them right in the huddle, and generally was a disaster.

And it's official: The Falcons have a new head coach

Falcons to introduce Dan Quinn

Updated: February 2, 2015, 11:05 AM ET
ESPN

The Atlanta Falcons  reached an agreement with Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn on a five-year deal to be the franchise's new head coach, sources told ESPN early Monday morning.

Quinn is expected to fly to Atlanta on Monday with Falcons officials, including owner Arthur Blank, and will be introduced at a Tuesday news conference, sources told ESPN.

The Falcons were prohibited from agreeing to a contract with Quinn until after the Seahawks finished competing in Sunday's Super Bowl.

Dan Quinn, who's reportedly going to be named head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, leaves Seattle with deep respect from his players, Jim Trotter writes. Story

Quinn would not discuss the move after the Seahawks' 28-24 loss to the Patriots.

"In respect to this game, what a terrific game we were all a part of," Quinn said. "So for tonight I'd like to make the focus all about our players, both teams'. It was a great contest. You could see how hard guys played. As a coach, that's really what you're looking for, great effort first. ... You see the guys in the locker room, they gave everything they had. You can't ask for more than that as a coach."

Quinn, 44, spent the past two seasons as the Seahawks' defensive coordinator after holding the same position at the University of Florida. He emerged as the leading candidate for the Falcons' job after the first round of interviews.

"It really wasn't a time for that," he said when asked whether any of the Seahawks players discussed his move. "It was more how do we come to grips with this. It was such a hard time at the end. Just my respect for so many of these players is so high, and we're so connected. I really feel for them. They put everything they had into this."

Quinn got his coaching start in 1994 as the defensive line coach at William & Mary. His first NFL job was as a defensive quality control assistant with the San Francisco 49ers in 2001. But his ascent occurred over the past two seasons with the Seahawks; he orchestrated a defense that ranked first in seven different statistical categories in 2013 and in five different statistical categories this past season. Quinn's defense was an integral part of Seattle's Super Bowl victory last year and this year's runner-up finish.

Quinn will inherit a Falcons team sorely in need of a defensive face-lift. Atlanta surrendered a league-high 398.3 yards per game in 2014 and had the NFL's worst third-down defense, allowing opponents to convert 46.8 percent of the time. By contrast, Quinn's '14 Seahawks ranked first in the league in yards allowed per game (267.1), passing yards allowed per game (185.6) and points allowed per game (15.9). The Seahawks had four Pro Bowlers on defense, including three in the secondary.

Blank implied that Quinn would have control of the Falcons' 53-man roster when asked about Julio Jones getting a long-term contract.

The Falcons were prohibited from agreeing to a contract with Dan Quinn until after the Seahawks finished competing in Sunday's Super Bowl.

"Well, I think it's a decision that the head coach will look at the talent on the roster," Blank told ESPN.com. "Julio's been a great player for us and a great talent, and he represents us on the field and off the field as well as anybody else. As the owner, it's not my decision to make. The new coach will spend a great deal of time assessing the roster and all of our players, and obviously Julio is a critical one."

Quinn will have the challenge of adjusting to his new role as a first-time head coach. The Falcons went the same direction with their previous coach when Mike Smith was hired in 2008 following a five-year stint as the Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive coordinator. Smith went on to be the winningest coach in Falcons history (66-46) before being fired after a 6-10 finish this past season.

Pieces of Quinn's new staff are already in place, with Kyle Shanahan set to be his offensive coordinator and Richard Smith the defensive coordinator. Quinn's longtime friend, Raheem Morris, will be the assistant head coach in charge of defensive backs.

And Quinn will retain at least four members of the previous coaching staff: special-teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, defensive line coach Bryan Cox, wide receivers coach Terry Robiskie and former assistant offensive line coach Wade Harman, who will now coach the tight ends. Running backs coach Gerald Brown could return, too.

Quinn was in the early stages of his coaching career at Hofstra University when Morris played defensive back there, and the two later coached on the same staff at the school.

Quinn was the defensive line coach under Richard Smith when Smith was the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator in 2005, and they also coached together with the 49ers. Quinn and Armstrong worked together with the Miami Dolphins, while Quinn and Cox worked together with the New York Jets.

A native of Morristown, N.J., Quinn was a defensive lineman at Salisbury State University (now Salisbury University) in Maryland. He recorded 145 career tackles, eight tackles for losses, one sack and one interception in 32 collegiate games.

Some of Quinn's coaching influences include Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Alabama coach and former Dolphins coach Nick Saban, and the late Joe Gardi, who was the defensive coordinator for the Jets during the days of the "Sack Exchange." Gardi was the head coach at Hofstra when Quinn was an assistant at the school.
My Panthers had better take note :o

Report: Warren Sapp arrested, accused of soliciting a prostitute
FOX Sports

FEB 02, 2015 2:48p ET

Warren Sapp allegedly had an eventful trip to Arizona.

Maybe it's never too early?

TMZ is reporting that Pro Football Hall of Famer and NFL Network analyst Warren Sapp was arrested on Monday morning in Phoenix, accused of soliciting a prostitute. The details surrounding his arrest are unclear at this point, but the time of arrest was listed as 7 a.m.

Sapp was in the Phoenix area to cover Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. Sapp has arrests in the past -- both of which were on charges of domestic battery in 2010 and 2014.

The charges were dropped in the 2010 case.

Tom Brady Is Giving His Super Bowl MVP Chevy Colorado to Game-Clinching Teammate Malcolm Butler

Car & Driver
February 3, 2015 at 2:21 pm

After the New England Patriots sealed the deal on Super Bowl XLIX, quarterback Tom Brady was named MVP. With that title came fame, adoration, and a brand-new 2015 Chevy Colorado pickup truck. But Brady and wife Gisele Bündchen won't be bombing around Boston in the bodacious red pickup: The quarterback plans to give his gratis grocery-getter to Patriots defensive back Malcolm Butler, who made the heart-in-your-throat interception that sealed the team's victory on Sunday night.

In an interview this morning with Boston sports radio WEEI's Dennis & Callahan, Brady was effusive with his praise of Butler, an undrafted rookie who played college football at little-known West Alabama and who pretty much flew under the radar during the regular season.

"A guy like Malcolm who makes that type of instinctive, quick play, that's one of his strong suits," Brady told Dennis & Callahan. "I don't think it surprised any of us players, because that's really what his skill set is. A lot of people didn't get to see that over the course of the season.

"It comes off as a great play, which it really was, obviously the biggest time of the year," the MVP said.

"You think we can convince you to give him the truck? Or are you gonna sell that for Best Buddies? What are you going to do—I can't see you driving around in a red truck," the hosts implore just one minute into the radio interview.

"I would love to give him the truck," he said. "I would love to do that. I'm going to figure out how to make that work."
