It will be interesting to see what happens with this, but I hope the TV riffing is few and far between. There are plenty of movies that need to be riffed.

I think we were all kind of surprised at how many votes it got in one of those polls there. It was what, second place?

The thing is, the pilot episode could be a movie, one without a real ending, but still a movie.  So the riff won't be all that different than usual

Lots of people have seen it/own it already so that's going to bring in the votes.  Plus I think people can see there's a lot of riffable things in the basic premise of the show, the "mysteries of island" and all the different characters to poke fun at.

So, I'm naive when it come to the ways of downloads/burning etcetera, etcetera.

If I buy the pilot episodes on iTunes, will I be able to burn them to a DVD-R?

Yes, I have DVD burner at my disposal, for that matter. What injects me with doubt is this message from the iTunes page: "iTunes 7.0 and QuickTime 7.1.3 are required to view video". Does this mean I will only be able to watch the downloaded video from a computer?

I haven't tried this with an encrypted video I've purchased from Apple, but with a regular .mp4 file, I would convert it to .m2v using TMPGEncoder.

As far as TV shoes go, this one is fairly easy to find.  I wouldn't call going to iTunes, Netflix or your local video store scrounging any more than me trying to Battlefield Earth.

It's not like Mike is Riffing Season 1 of "Square Pegs."

And why not? That would be a totally different head. Totally.

Does this mean we can look forward to fight club.  Am  I wrong or was it really close to second place.

Maybe you can all take on Firefly next. It's worth owning and tends to go for about $17 these days. It's everywhere, and even though it's a masterpiece, it's intensely riffable. :^)

I was thinking about that one myself.

If they riff'd Firefly, why I'd...I'd....I'd....be unhappy for a moment then go on with my life.

But seriously, don't touch Firefly. It's very close to my heart, and it's been through enough strife.

Plus, it's already hilarious. You'd practically be riffing a comedy.

Exactly.  "Lost", the pilot episode by itself, isn't available "everywhere" and unless you like the series (echhhh!!!) you are not going to pay 50 bucks for a season just to see the Rifftrax.

Of course, no one is being forced to buy every Rifftrax that comes out, either.

Pak-Man

Well I scouted out the local rentals today and discovered that video stores now have an entire "Televsion" section, and carry multiple copies of Lost season 1 disc 1. Doesn't look like it'll be too hard to come by. :^)

The problem, though, is for those of us who re-author.  Most of us, as far as I can tell, like to purchase the movies so we're not stealing them.  The best alternative I've come up with so far is downloading the first two episodes recorded from HDTV rather than ripped from the DVD.  Kind of a gray area, I think, legally, but morally it's just like making a copy of a TV show you recorded for a friend (which is different from making a copy of a DVD you purchased for a friend -- the TV airing was free while the DVD was not and making a copy means one less person will be buying it).  Maybe couple that with paying for the episodes on iTunes and I can let myself off the moral hook.  I have a feeling it might be tough to sync up properly, though.  But I'm still checking for prices on the box set..  I'll probably end up buying it.  My girlfriend's into the show, so it wouldn't be a total loss on the other episodes.

And, P.S., for those who would go for it, the pilot episodes (alone) are available on a UMD for your PSP, which comes significantly cheaper than the box set.  So there's at least one more option, though not an ideal one, obviously.

Another option is to just rent the first disc from blockbuster, and just keep the disc.  Tell them your dog ate it, or you "Lost" it.  They'll charge you 10 bucks or something, and that way you've paid for it without buying the whole box set.

Good idea!  Hmm...  My fear is that they'd charge me the full box set price.  Are you sure they wouldn't?
