I go by gstien, as my username states.
I've seen almost all of the MST3K movies, even the stinkers.
Right now I'm working my way through all of the Rifftrax movies.
While I'm not a fan personally of the Twilight series, Rifftrax indeed made it funnier.
Being a connoisseur of old movies from the 30's through the 50's, I got the Harpo reference which was hilarious.
Because of my years of viewing movies this way, am I the only one that makes comments about every movie I see, ala Rifftrax?  ;D

Welcome gstien, glad to have you on the forums.

Make sure to try out some of the iRiffs as well. We have many groups that are right up there with Rifftrax and MST3K in terms of quality. And they often will tackle movies or genres that Rifftrax themselves don't. A good place to get started is the list I did a while ago where forum members posted their favorites and I listed them:

Do you have favorite genres to get riffed? Chances are there's a group that specializes in it.

Should have copied before hitting post, lost everything I typed....
Thanks for the warm welcome.
My favorite films are old Sci-Fi's mainly because I have many old movies, several that were riffed.
I grew up watching old comedies (black and whites), and honed a skill of making funny observations about situations whether they be in life, or movies.
Let's just say I have a good following on my FB page from friends, and some I don't even know, because of my wit.
Unfortunately I can't turn it off, and find myself laughing at something I noticed that no one else did (that I found funny) or because of a line in a movie that just popped in my head.
I'm used to it by now, the stares, the backing away..... ;D

In that case there are some old black and white movies that have iRiffs. Turkey Shoot is one of the very best, and he does public domain VODs (where the riff and the video are already together) like the 1935 Scrooge, Spooks Run Wild (with Bela Legosi and The Bowery Boys), and The Snow Creature.
I know other groups have done old movies, here is a general search in iriffs under "classic":

There have also been a few old serials from the 30s riffed. Where a different group would tackle each of the parts. The Phantom Empire, The Lost City, and The Return of Chandu.

Welcome to the boards, GStein.  Please stick around.  Aside from talking about rifftrax, there's game boards, TV and movie discussions and our monthly List of Crap, where one voted on their favourite things (like top 50 novelty songs or top 50 Fantasy Movies).  Trust me, stick around and you'll have a lot of fun.

Darth Geek

Yes, we have a vote going on right now for what will be the next List:

Welcome gstien, I haven't been on these forums to long but everyone is super nice and welcoming.

Recently I was trying to figure out the Harpo reference, what does it mean? As far as I can remember them using this reference in Twilight and in one of the Harry Potter movies. I was also trying to figure out the origin of saying "Norm!" when men walk in through doors. I recall hearing it more in the MST3K days but also occasionally in Rifftrax.

Harpo was one of the Marx Brothers.

You'll probably notice a resemblance to a certain crazy-eyed puffy haired vampire in Twilight.

Norm was a character on Cheers.

Any heavy-set guy walking into a bar where everyone knows him because he basically lives there is also considered a "Norm".

Also, welcome gstien.  You aren't the only one who can't shut it off.  I can usually keep myself from saying comments aloud around a group that wouldn't appreciate it, but I'm always thinking of them.

Hi, welcome.

Harpo always did and still does give me the creeps. Kind of like Teller from Penn & Teller although I think Harpo is more likable despite his inherent creepiness. In my opinion anyways.
