Yes, it's an utterly baffling horror film about a mad doctor who believes death is simply an evolution and that every woman wants to sleep with him. Yes, he is laughed out of the academy and moves his decency-defying research to a swamp in Ecuador, as one does. Yes, he's investigated by a sheriff who can only be described as a chunk of swarthy walking meat, and who also believes that every woman wants to sleep with him.

But MORE THAN ANY OF THIS, Swamp of the Ravens is a vehicle for an original song about being in love with a dead robot that will change the way you view songs, movies, songs in movies, robots, dead robots, living robots, and love itself. Seriously, we haven't been so infatuated with a song since Damien Carter taught us all about "Hangin' Out With [His] Family" in Birdemic, and we know you'll love it just as much as we do. You poor souls.

Oh and also, there are no ravens in the titular raven swamp. Just buzzards. Really, it's a heck of a movie.

So grab the dead robot you love most and join Mike, Kevin, and Bill for Swamp of the Ravens! No ravens required!

When did this happen? I usually pride myself on buying and downloading this stuff less than 20 minutes after it's available. I'm slipping up, need to get my head in the game...

Ah, some Euro/South America cheese. Right up my alley.

I did find it interesting that like the Riff Copy points out (and I don't recall seeing any in the film myself), they use buzzards that had raven calls and may have been called ravens once in the film... but predominantly just referred to as "Birds".

In the original poster/cover image they were represented by an artist as looking somewhat like ravens... but the art was so bad it's hard to tell. They were a confused lot when making this film.  :o

I decided to use the ravens in a few of my poster designs for title's sake... there were also a few other promotional pieces done for the film that use ravens. I couldn't find an alternate title for the film... I think they were just idiots

Beyond the Riff

Ummm. Where's the Star Wars Holiday Special? Or did you guys miss that one? Released right before this one?

The Star Wars Holiday Special was released in '07 and can be found here: www.rifftrax.com/vod/star-wars-holiday-special

They weren't. They have recently converted a bunch of old mp3s to VODs.

I think from a design standpoint, this was probably the right way to go for the RT graphic. One of the things I've really liked in the last two and a half years is that they moved away from these sort of cliche Photoshop MKB's heads onto the movie poster to these wholly built from scratch illustrations that you do. I think it adds so much more credibility to the franchise. Not that they didn't have credibility before, but this "new" style of graphics, at least to me, say "What you're buying IS NOT the movie itself, but an original creating that was built on top of the movie. What you're getting is something that we have created that stands entirely on its own merits," and that they found a designer and a style that fits perfectly into what RiffTrax is and the sort of culture and canon that surrounds it.

If you don't mind me asking, what program are you using to create these? Do you function within the Adobe Creative Suite, or is there some other program that you use? I don't often get to talk shop regarding graphic design with other designers that are somewhat worth their salt. I know a lot of designers who can't even be bothered to build their own graphics, which is something that is a total paradox to me.

I think this is the best contender for "Not making a lick of sense" since Frankenstein Island.

I think there are many opinions on what the best approach to these posters was, I for one thought that the original approach was very fitting... Mike Kevin and Bill are riffing a movie and the movie posters not only featured them but it also riffed the movie in a visual way. Whatever opinion people have I am happy to showcase my illustration and design work. I've had a great time creating these posters throughout all of their  incarnations. With most of these more recent posters I use a combination of Photoshop and Illustrator.

Oh, I wasn't trying to say that those old posters were BAD. They worked well, but I just really like the illustration direction that's been taken the last couple of years. I think it looks REALLY REALLY good. :)
