You're gonna see it 5 times?!?!

I think we've been through this before ;) I'm taking my two brothers, my sister and sister-in-law. It's gonna be awesome.

sister, eh?

You said that already. ;)

Great show, as always! I'm looking forward to the eventual DVD release, so I can meticulously compare it to the previous riffs at the expense of my social life.

Also, I enjoyed hearing all my favorite Coulton&Roderick and Paul&Storm Christmas songs during the slideshow! :D (Noticed the Doubleclicks in the credits as well, but I must've arrived after their song played.)

MrTorso

It was pretty good!  I think I like this re-riffing more than the CT one. I will have to rewatch that soon to compare.  The digital goodies aren't that bad. We get A version of that new short from the Santa Village DVD.

Darth Geek

I had a great time with the new riffing. Not sure if I prefer it to the original or CT one, but it had some great moments (Alex Trebeck's funeral march being a particular standout). I did notice a few places that were silent where they could have had a riff, which I thought was odd.
I did miss some of the old riffs, like: "We're going out the old fashioned way."---Guns a blazin'!

The Alex Trebek/Jeopardy riff over the Martian robot's theme was the only "repeated" riff I noticed. (And although repeated it was still different than the MST3K version.)

Overall a good riff that I really, really enjoyed.  Some great moments in it.

That was a lot of fun. Not a big turnout for this one in my town, though. Usually it's pretty good. I've been the last four or five and they've all been not PACKED, but a good crowd.

It was a graveyard tonight, though. Maybe 20.

Which, actually, for most movies I'd be cool with that. I hate big crowds. I'm not agoraphobic, just introverted. I'd much rather have a one-on-one experience with most movies, or just see it with a small handful of friends. It's why I got into taking in matinees. But for RIFFTRAX, nah, I wanna see all their showings do well. They're among the few guys in the entertainment who I always love seeing succeed.
I used to have an image here, but Photobucket got cheap about remote linking. I guess I'll have to think of something witty instead. Which I will. Later. It caught me by surprise, in all honesty. It's hard to be clever on command, I mean, YOU try it. Be funny: NOW! See, tough. So, gimme a bit, 'kay?

Birmingham, AL reporting in! GREAT show, guys!! Really loved it. The shows here have usually been packed or near-full, and, at first, I thought the 15 that were there at the start of the show was gonna be it. By quarter after, it was near-full (though still slightly lesser than the last handful). Volume was very loud (and I hate that it drowns out the laughter in the theater a bit), but I got used to it.

First off, I wanna tip my hat to whoever wrote the "blow on the cartridge" line. The joke seemed to fall flat there and here, but I thought it deserved a big laugh. I loved how the Choachem(sp?) jokes KILLED. "Chinese restaurants filled with Jews" had me laughing for minutes straight. While it did slog in a few parts (the airlock scene and, yeah, it's tiring seeing the same 3 sets for an hour), a joke worthy of applause or guffaws (Ooh! I should trademark that as a catchphrase!) was usually just around the corner. Considering I wasn't that much of a riff-y mood, I still laughed SO hard and had a GREAT time!

Comparing it to the earlier attempts: I have the MST3k one memorized (it's my favorite Joel episode). I had trouble watching the CT version because I constantly compared it to the show, sizing each joke up head-to-head. Figuring this might be the case for RT, I thought it was genius (intentional or not) to make the roughly first 15 jokes topical (as in, those couldn't be made beyond the past 5 years). That really helped me ease into it. I also loved how there seemed to be an almost intentional alternating rhythm. For example, waiting after the moment MST3k made a punchline thereby capitalizing on the moment after it. I think this is what Darth Geek is referring to. This outing also seemed the cleverest as well as the loosest of the three riffings. A lot of cutting logic was pointed out that I never noticed before. Though I've seen the MST3k version a few million times (and the non-riffed version perhaps a dozen times), it never occurred to me things such as guys wearing the same uniform were so easily confused by so many different Santas. Haha. I might have to make room next to my RiffTrax Christmas Shorts dvd for this one later. Thanks again, guys! Look forward to seeing you guys again next year (with some newly added converts ;))!

P.S. LOVE it when the digital goodies are video downloads/streaming, and the pre-show music being non-RiffTones was a great change-up too!

Yeah, the Chinese restaurant joke went over big here, too. One guy in front of me laughed for like a solid minute.

I think my favorite was the one near the end with "hangtime" they called it. I was the same way. "'Nuclear', 'curtain' They had like words back in the Cold War." And yeah, it was like my brain was all "...loading...loading...loading...loading..." and then I laughed my head off.

There were a LOT of flubbed lines.

I must be in a bad mood: didn't really get into it for 20minutes, and the short at the beginning was awful: Mr B Unnatural.

Favorite line "Is that a TV??!!" "That's what Gary Busey says to his mirror every morning."

Long Tall Jodie

Loved the short; the film was just okay.  I think I'm just burnt out the film itself.

All that aside, let's talk about What's Happening (the short on the digital goodies page).  Because I seriously need to ask what's happening.  I have no idea what I just watched.

Loved the show.  Erica did too, and she almost skipped this one.  Glad she didn't.

Next year I want to try and cut together a super-mix of all three versions of the riff.  Use the best possible jokes for each moment.  Of course, by then I'll either forget I wanted to do that or decide its way too hard, but for now it's a great project.

The only drawback is that our theater never seems to get the feed turned on in time.  For the Starship Troopers show we missed all the slides.  This time, we only saw two of them.

I thought about doing the same thing, but on the other hand, I'm superhumanly lazy.

I think they did at least as good a job, if not better, than the other two versions. I think I just might be burned out on the movie--also I was never a huge fan of either MST or CT version. They're ok but not great. So this will probably go down as my least favorite RT live show. Not to be Scrooge here, but I would have traded this live show for two VOD's. Or maybe even one.
