Yeah, Kevin McDonald was great. His voice lends itself to riffing, and it is so different than Mike, Kevin and Bill's that it helps. I would love to see any of them come back for a guest spot on a regular Rifftrax, really.

Having guests allows us to do a big show like this and pack in the Castro. Yes, the guys provide the scripts for the guests, but the guests do tweak jokes or rewrite for themselves, some more than others. When David Cross did it, he rewrote/changed a good number of jokes. Others just do it verbatim. Most of the talent are in town doing a plethora of stuff and only get one rehearsal with the guys. Personally, I usually rephrase a thing or two to better suit my delivery and sensibility, and I have written a couple of my own jokes in past shows. Regardless, it's a lot of fun to do in front of a big crowd, and I'm glad we were able to capture it and make it available to everyone.

I think guests provide a little variety.  And certain guests have their own talents they bring to the table, no one could have pulled off a line like "Try my Yelp reviews, they're great" like Kristen Schaal did.

Nice insight.  I did see that none of the guest performers were listed as writers and I was curious as to whether any input came in.  For example, there were some slight changes to the riffs I had scene before, and I wasn't sure if it was just changed for the guest or just to try to improve or change the material to keep it fresh (for example, perhaps one riff represents something then that the guys don't feel know.  I never got what was the deal with the slam on Patton Oswalt in Troll 2, unless it was a reference to a specific thing that didn't age well).

Are the guy at least trying to get some of these people back to guest on a regular Rifftrax? Or is that pretty much dead too?

That I have no insight into, sorry. I do think guests add some fun variety to regular Rifftrax, so hopefully they'll do more in the future!

Ok so having read earlier in this thread about audio issues, is that why audience reaction volume is a bit low? Or was it just awkward audience?

The audience wasn't miked. The audio is the feed from the soundboard, which is the directional mics onstage that the performers were talking into. The audience reacted well and loudly (there were nearly 1400 people in there), but without a microphone actually capturing their sound, you are just getting the laughter as a sound bleed into the onstage mics.

Was not expecting such a comprehensive answer but thx Cole.   Heard some of same jokes (dynamite short) play out so well in live theater, knew there had to be something going on.

*Comprehensive = totally answered my question... just in shock cause it feels so rare...

edgey_berzerker

This was great!
I actually looked up the short that Kristen Schaal mentioned (Cipher in the snow) and well.... that... was a depressing short.... my god.
"This operating system is about as stable as Charles F***ing Manson!"
