Someone explain the ending to me.

Trekker4747

The spiders used their spinnerets to cocoon the entire town.  It's a small town no one cared about so no one really noticed. And then, end of movie. We'll deal with the aftermath in the sequel.

There's not going to be a sequel.

Oh, whatever, I'm going to go do Star Trek again.

Oh, so it's sort of like how the writer's for DINOSAURS pretty much murdered their entire cast at the end of their show? "Mommy, mommy? Baby Dinosaur/William Shatner must have somehow been saved, right?" "No, little Jimmy. They, along with everybody else you became attached to over the course of the series/movie is 10,000% dead!" I love wicked bummer endings, let me tell ya...

Trekker4747

Well, really, could "Dinosaurs" have ended any other way?

Any number of things would have been better. Extinction would have been appropriate if the show had been, y'know, actually based on REAL DINOSAURS, but the Dinosaurs in the shows were essentially humans living in contemporary society. Also, the show was marketed almost exclusively to children and families as a very happy, funny experience. The complete shift of tone going out, I thought, was wholly inappropriate. I'd rather not get into the specific politics of the finale because I really don't want to get into a political argument about it, but also because the politics of the finale were incidental. Upsetting children in the name of ANY political argument is not cool.

/20 years too late complaining about a show that presently has zero cultural impact.

Edit: I really don't mean to sound like a dick about this.

Trekker4747

No, NP. Everyone has their opinion and, I agree, Dinosaur's ending was a bit... "dark."  But, really, even as a kid I expected the show to end with the asteroid strike.  ;)

Sugar Ray Dodge

Yeah, I remember being upset about that as a kid, too. But not NEARLY as disappointed as I was when I saw PROJECT ALF...

Alf and Dinosaur ......never watched them.

That is why horror movies were invented.

I was a child of the 80s. They were both required viewing.

Back on topic. What the hell? No PACKERS riff?!

As for the ending, I like to think it was the beginning of The Mist. The spiders were just the heralds of the giant Lovecraftian monsters.

Trekker4747

I know it was the 70s and communications and stuff weren't nearly what they are today but you'd think SOMEONE would have noticed an entire town suddenly turning into someone's demo-art for Hallmark that depicts the town after a severe snow and ice storm.

For the apparent budget, that was even dumber than Birdemic. Although, it did deliver where Giant Spider Invasion did not. But, then again, Giant Spider Invasion had furry dune buggies.

DDT is to this movie what Spruce Bark Beetles are to Birdemic.

Which means that a biplane is a treehouse and a box of wigs.
