Did the hippie-fied Alfie remind anyone else of the Doctor Pepper mountain man?

Action Batch

What was with the "Red Tape" and the boing sound?

Tony Farms AKA Puma Man

This movie had a distinct lack of Eddie Vedder for being in 1994.

RockSiren

Yeah this was really awful.  Not even entertaining in its badness.  It boggles the mind that theres a cult following for this and that there have been showings late at night in NYC.

It hurt just to watch the sample!
WARNING: In case of Rapture, this dance belt will be unoccupied.

i hated that how there wasn't an epic battle to the death against the hippies and police after what they have done to them

So, at the end it is mentioned that our young singers have lived with the hippies for a year and the man is holding their kid that looks like he is three years old.......how in one year did she have a nine month pregnant time and suddenly have a large three year old in one year?

And "god" drove a car to get to earth, but someone steals the car, drives off with it, and god walks after it?

RockSiren

Well apparently the lesson is- screw everyone left on earth, let the "evil" spread and just leave them.

The Landlady was Miriam Margoyles! She went to school with and did improv with and was highly-respected by some of the Monty Pythons!

Also, for a Golan-Globus, this was actually surprisingly good. FOR A GOLAN-GLOBUS.

I guess Pandi is kind of... Lilith? And I guess that would make Dandi... There really isn't a true concordance.

But... Wow.

So many great showgirl costumes wasted on this piece of...

Seriously, how is this movie any worse than The Wiz?

The Wiz had horrible pacing and all the songs lasted abut twice as long as they really should have (and Diana Ross was about 20 years too old for the role), but they actually had a budget when it came to sets and costuming (unlike The Apple's extravagant  luxury station wagons, for example) and The Wiz's singers could, you know, actually sing. I mean, good lord. Lena Horne vs. Bargain Basement Peter Frampton? Not really a comparison there.

The Wiz has huge, huge problems, but it's a different type of bad than The Apple.  There's actual moments of competence at times in The Wiz.

The screenplay for The Wiz was written by Joel "bat-nipples" Schumacher, by the way. It's not the black version of The Wizard of Oz--it's the blaxploitation version of The Wizard of Oz. I saw this movie at the theater (it was actually rated G) as a kid and I remember being shocked at how sleazy and off-putting much of it was. I was a fan of Michael Jackson but I thought his scarecrow makeup was hideous. I see it's on Netflix, so I'll have to see if it's really as bad as I remember.

I also saw a trailer for The Apple as a kid, too (possibly when I saw The Wiz, now that I think about it) but all I could remember about it, really, is that it was lurid and strangely alluring. Finally caught the trailer again on U2b a couple of years back. Yeah... Bad. But I think Carousel is Rifftrax material, and that's considered a classic musical, so results may vary.
