Evel Knievel was a 70s icon most known for the "stunt" of flying across the country to beat his former promoter, an executive at 20th Century Fox, outside the studio commissary with an aluminum baseball bat, shattering the man's arm while shouting "I'm going to kill you!" Okay, that's not what he's most known for, but it's what he should be most known for. I mean, did you know that? We didn't know that. But it just might come up once or twice in our new Rifftrax of Viva Knievel!

The cast of this movie is basically a list of names designed to make you go "whoa, all those people are in this movie?" Screen legend Gene Kelly! Red Buttons! Lauren Hutton! Frank Gifford! Space Mutiny's Cameron Mitchell! Dabney Coleman! The inexplicably-named Marjoe Gortner! And, perhaps best of all, the diabolical druglord villain played by none other than Leslie Nielsen! If you've seen him in The Naked Gun or Airplane! every line he says will sound like a joke to you, and trust us friends, that is a very good thing.

From Evel waking up orphans late at night to give them his own shoddy action figure merchandise, to, oh right, the occasional motorcycle jump, there's almost too much to like about this one. So grab your baseball bat and join Mike, Kevin, and Bill as they spectacularly fail to jump Snake River Canyon and see Viva Knievel!

I'm pretty sure I've seen this. Should be a hoot. For a second I thought it was going to be the George Hamilton version which would have been awesome but I think this one might be more riffable.

Ever since I picked up the VHS of this movie from the dump bin at Wal-Mart (in the dark time. the time between MST3K and Rifftrax), I desperately wanted to bring these great, heroic people of MST3K to my place and savage this film for me personally (I told my lawyer my plan and she advised against). But now, thankfully, felony kidnapping is no longer required. This is day is truly great. Haven't been this thrilled since obtaining my autographed copy of "Death Rat". Speaking of Mr. Nelson's novel, I never figured out why the book had Hal Needham's signature and not his...oh well.

Was I the only one who had no idea what was going on?

YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHH! I don't  think I've seen this before, but I TOTALLY remember seeing E. K. jumping various canyons and palaces in my childhood! Can you remember? Which came first, Elvis in the stars n stripes flared jumpsuit, or Evel? Evel was such a bad, drunk, abusive MF. GOD, I MISS THE 70S!

Great, looking forward to this as it's one I've hoped would get a riffing. I loved Evel when I was a kid. Had the little Evel Knievel toy, and wept during his failed jump over the snake river (okay, I didn't really weep. I was just mad there was such a sucky end to such a hyped event).

I saw him live once, jump a bunch of trucks (no crash). As an adult I wonder what was so cool about a guy in a cape jumping things on a bike. But hey, for a youngster he was bitchin awsome! ;D

Alleged

Every once in a while, Rifftrax hits one out of the ballpark.  "Viva Knievel" is of the same caliber as "Star Wars Holiday Special," or MST3K's "Mitchell."

What kind of car was it that Evel drove in this movie? It's a very interesting-looking design of car I'm not sure I've ever seen before.
