I thought the original was better than the musical. Sure, the musical has a better budget, but Roger Corman's original has more laughs.

Again, bigger budget cannot compete with better storytelling. The animated film was much closer in tone and in content to the book.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

its accuracy doesnt make it interesting or watchable either though lol

My favorite remake is The Manchurian Candadate (spelling?). I thought it was very well done and actually did a good job of keeping me interested.
Aaahh! This movie just throws you violently into the next scene!

for anyone who saw No Way Out, i would suggest seeing The Big Clock which is the original.  its one of those cases where they took the core story of the original and the major plot points and just updated the setting and characters for modern times and did a great job of it.  i dont think i like either better than the other, they are both great movies.

Pak-Man

What, no Planet of the Apes? It wasn't ALL bad.. :^)

The remake had monkey sex in it, which I have been unrighteously forced to watch in my many college-mandated excursions to the San Diego Zoo. Seeing it on the tv (no, I didn't watch it in theaters thank God) brought back horrible, horrible memories.

I thought it was pretty cool, but I have to admit I've never caught the original. I'm just a sucker for Burton. :^)

Maybe you should slip Burton's remake under Mike's pillow... :^)

sarcasm_made_Easy

pak you should see the original.  its bad ass.  and it actually has an intelligent debate/theme to it as well

Oh believe me, he's thought of it. I don't know if we'll ever get around to it, but I can hear the riffs myself lol.

I love love love the first Planet of the Apes. Absolutely awesome, despite Heston's over-acting =)

And I got ya on the Burton-love. I really get into his work -- especially after he did "Nightmare Before Christmas" which introduced me to his world.

I just pictured Kevin singing "Jungle Love" in faux-operatic style...

..until Mike hits him, that is.  :)

i think they need more three person riffs, just to balance it out.  mike and kevin get along almost too well, they start getting off into their own little tangents sometimes lol  I think they need bill or someone else to even them out again.

Bah, i like those a lot, it's one of my favorite differences between Rifftrax and MST3k. During the Matrix, when they get on their discussion about outfits worn in the Matrix universe, we were dying of laughter. And it's perfectly okay because they're talking over inane drivel that was better ignored entirely.

sarcasm_made_Easy

true it is funny when they do, but i think its cool if they get off on those tangents, AND there is a third person lol

Um...that's not the impression I've gotten from every recap I've ever read of it.  I read a COMPLETE RECAP (i.e. every single scene is described in detail, with screenshots), and it left me shaking my head, wondering why Bakshi even tried to undertake such a massive project when he clearly had neither the money nor the artistic vision to get it right.  Granted, it was a comedic recap, but this isn't the only source on which I'm basing my conclusion.  The characters were portrayed as morons that not even children could learn to enjoy.  Hell, I hesitate to even call them "characters."  And it doesn't even LOOK good!  And it gets a considerable number of plot details WRONG!

Peter Jackson's version, in my opinion, managed to stay mostly true to the message and tone of the book while still serving as enjoyable films.  Hell, if theywere merely ENDURABLE they'd still be better than the Bakshi version.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

I've just started listening to Rifftrax a week ago, and I've gotta say, I want to hear more DisembAudio.  You only really get good riffs from him in the Mike Nelson solo tracks.  "You touch my car, I touch your insides, with lead" in Fifth Element was hilarious.

Back on topic, there's a "remake" of Rear Window, and I'm not sure what to think yet.  It's called Disturbia or something like that.
