I think I've mastered embedding youtube videos, but when I try with video embed codes that aren't youtube related, they don't seem to work.  How can I get them to work?

Some videos aren't supported by this forum's software. Stuff like Daily Motion, Colbert/Daily Show, most iFrame-based stuff (if there's not a workaround like the iFrame YouTube stuff) etc

It's a little hit and miss.

I haven't tried other video sites like Vimeo, but I did manage to get embedding working for blip.tv .

Here's how.

Step 1: Copy the embed code from the page you want.  I'll use Nostalgia Critic's Total Recall review as a general example.

<iframe src="http://blip.tv/play/gbk7g4CSegI.html?p=1" width="780" height="438" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://a.blip.tv/api.swf#gbk7g4CSegI" style="display:none"></embed>

Step 2: Copy http://blip.tv/play/gbk7g4CSegI .  Omit the quotation marks, the last period and the html.

Step 3: Paste http://blip.tv/play/gbk7g4CSegI into this flash command: (flash=500,350])http://blip.tv/play/gbk7g4CSegI(/flash) .  Only replace the ( ) with [ ] marks.

Step 4:  It should work as shown below.  You can also change the window size by altering the numbers in the first flash tag.

I haven't tried it with other video sites, though.  I'll have to experiment a bit.

Yeah, most of the Half In the Bag stuff is blip and that's a relatively simple workaround. I've tried tinkering with other videos, but the code is such a mess, it's essentially copy, paste, hope, fail, try again, give up.

Although, this is a great spot to post workarounds that do work.

Hey, finally a proper place for me to ask this.  So I can embed youtube videos that have the "use old embed code" option.  But there are some videos out there that do not have this option.  How do I go about embedding those youtube videos?

Trailer (I couldn't embed it because it didn't offer the old embed code.)

all you have to do is take the video identifier, in this case Py_IndUbcxc and stick it after http://www.youtube.com/v/ in the flash tags thusly:

[flash=400,300]http://www.youtube.com/v/Py_IndUbcxc[/flash]
dF = 0
d*F = J
