I've never had the "pleasure" of seeing this infamously bad movie, but I now suddenly have the urge. I went to look for the DVD and the only version available is the "Renegade" version, which supposedly fixes some of the problems with the movie. To heck with that, I want to see it in all of its most horrible glory! I don't suppose that anyone knows where I could find a widescreen version of the original theatrical release?

If not, I suppose that the best I can do is get a full screen VHS version. I've seen three covers; which one is the correct one? Does it matter? Thanks a bunch!

Wow. That's a tall order. I am pretty sure the only DVD version available is the "Renegade" version... which improves the movie slightly, and as I understand it, there were some CGI effects also added. I'm sure you're probably well-aware of the changes though. As many people have said though, minor tweaks can't fix what is ultimately a broken movie.

As for the VHS versions on display there... the original would be any that simply have "The Quickening" as the subtitle. You'll know for sure when you hear Macleod and Ramirez towards the beginning talking about the planet Zeist. The Renegade version is the one where they made all the changes to try and undo the damage done by The Quickening. I think the original version is only available on VHS, as for widescreen... not sure. Sorry. :(

Yeah, I think your safe with any VHS version, as long as it doesn't say Renegade Edition instead of quickening. Pretty sure the "improvements" weren't made until DVD.  That first cover is the one I remember renting myself the first time I saw it though, so if you can grab that one I know it's right.

I do remember being disappointed myself when I found the blu ray and it only had the Renegade Cut. Improvements be damned, I wanted to see the crappy red force field sky again.

I'm trying to find my DVD copy, which isn't the Renegade version.

Then again, it's not exactly unaltered either...

Thanks, guys! I just ordered a VHS copy and am "eagerly" anticipating seeing this "classic"

Enjoy Connor's Mickey Mouse laugh. Trust me, you'll notice it.

I think there were non-renegade DVDs made, but I'm also pretty sure they went out of print long before the renegade ones did.  So there should still be some out there in the world, but they'll be harder to find.

Watched it. Holy-moley that was bad!

I was definitely not expecting a clothes-shopping montage with Sean Connery set to the 1812 Overture. It seems that the whole purpose of his appearance in the movie was comic relief.

Is there a worse actor in the world than Christopher Lambert? He was also bad in Highlander, but at least that was a decent movie.

My favorite scene is the one where Virginia Madsen's character attempts to explain the new Highlander mythology:

Louise Marcus: Okay, now let me just see if I can get this straight. You come from another planet, and you're mortal there, but you're immortal here until you kill all the guys from there who have come here... and then you're mortal here... unless you go back there, or some more guys from there came here, in which case you become immortal here... again.
Conner MacLeod: Something like that.

Before we watched this, my wife thought that she had seen this before. But she didn't remember any of it. She swears she saw a movie where there were many planets and could be "only one" on each of them, but I couldn't find any evidence of such a movie. Any idea what she may be talking about?

Edit: I now see that the quotes above are from the "US Cable-TV Version", so maybe the VHS I bought isn't the theatrical version after all, and it may be the same movie that my wife saw. I wonder if the original theatrical version is even available? The cover of the one we bought is below:

Didn't know there was a difference like that available to buy. I don't think there's any chance the theatrical version is what your wife is talking about. The changes wouldn't have been that in depth.
