I didn't say they were legally required to do it, I said it was a prize. They had people pitch them ideas for riffing and selected a winner, whose choice would be riffed.

Right. And they changed their mind. What does that have to do with the person who 'won'?

I'm not sure why you want to turn this into an argument, Deeb. All I am saying is it's disappointing - the guys chose it because they knew it'd make a great riff, and it is sad this announced Rifftrax won't see the light of day due to money.

I was sure looking forward to it.

It does seem pretty poor form to offer a prize and reneg though.
FINE

I'm not trying to to turn this into an argument; just trying to see where you're coming from. For the record, I was looking forward to it as well. Who knows? Maybe Elliot will take a shot at it. He already tackled Planet of the Apes.

Also, was the criteria for this last Comic-Con the movie they thought would make the best riff? Because I'm pretty sure that's not how they chose D-War.
VIVA IL ESORDIO DEL DIABETE ADULTO DUCE!!!

MontyServo

I thought they did an audience poll both times from audience member picks and those two got the loudest reaction.  And that was how they were picked.  Can't remember for sure.  Maybe it was just for D-War.

I would like to see some sort of response to the Kickstarter idea from the Rifftrax team.  Might be worth a try to see how it works and can maybe be done once or twice a year afterwards to help along those little titles that might not ever get done.

Conor

Unfortunately the comic con panel is probably not the best format for picking a title. Some sort of kickstarter esque pre-order system could be a better solution towards not producing titles that nobody would buy.

MontyServo

Well, it was just an idea.

Some of us are still holding out hope of getting those pie in the sky titles that have been talked about since day one of Rifftrax.

In the board game world they have a system called P-500, which means pre-order 500.

Smaller companies (mostly ones that produce niche games) list titles of games that are mostly developed and people can pledge in a similar way to kickstarter, and once they hit 500 pre-orders (enough to make the game profitable) they produce it.

People that back it in that way get a small discount too.

It's similar to Kickstarter, (though it predates it by a long shot) only a) there's no end date except the date they hit enough preorders to go to print b) no stretch rewards etc and c) no splitting of profits with Amazon.

Would love to see something like that to get some of the harder to sell titles riffed and yet making sure Rifftrax isn't left not making money.

EDIT: And obviously no one is charged till the goal is reached.

(GMT Games is a great example of this system.)

Could be a huge win-win.

Guaranteed money for Rifftrax and people get to vote with their wallets for what they want to see.

I'd be equally happy with any of the RP people doing it. It'd be a great fit for Matthew, or Janet and Cole, or one of the other folks we haven't heard of in  long time.

And IMMEDIATELY all of RVR IIs money goes to a kickstarter for Dune.

I'd contribute to Kickstarter for Logan's Run, Dune, the rest of the Star Trek Movies...hell, a ton of 80s movies. But I'm a customer who buys everything new they release...except for the Harry Potter movies. Even riffed, the first one was more torturous than funny, so I've never had any desire to see any of the others- even riffed- and that's saying a lot.

If they did some kind of pre-order system it would seem they could do it on their own site and not have to share with Kickstarter or anything. RiffTrax knows what they need to make a profit on a single title. No need to have a public goal like on Kickstarter.

While we are fantasizing here is an idea:

Make a site where the fans can suggest and promote and sell pre-orders.

Exactly what I'm suggesting - Except for the fans suggesting the titles - I think it's best that the people who know what is going to make a great riff pick them.

The only way the system would really work is if there were limited options to not split the pool up too far.

(Of course there is a suggestion section here on the forum, but I am certain no one from Rifftrax have ventured in there after the first year of Rifftrax ;P)

That is true. Having RT decide would be a way better option.

the guys are going to finish up the Harry Potters?   I mean, you could tell me that they've said what they've needed to in the other 6, but I loved the way they ripped the new Twilight for splitting it into 2 parts, so why not the Deathly Hallows?  I would just love it if they completed the series like they've done with Star Wars, LOTR, Spiderman, the Matrix, etc.  Just do them & riff them off like a band-aid, if only to call it finished once & for all.  The Harry Potters are some of my favorite riffs & I'm sure they're huge sellers!
And while I'm here on the subject, the Indiana Jones ones are my favorites, too, and if they did the other two, I know they'd be hits as well!

Yeah this series is tied with Star Wars for me as my favorite Rifftrax series and I am kind of sad that they have given up on it with only two movies to go.
Fave Rifftrax:The Room Fave MST3K:Manos
Fave DW story of last year:TAP/TRF.  Fave classic series story:Inferno

Still stuck on dial up.
