It would be cool if someone took the time to dub Seven Samurai into English for Lucas to enjoy.  Maybe one of the riff groups could put it together.  They could act out the voices and everything.  I would try to do that myself, but it would probably turn out better if done by someone with experience with recording audio tracks to be synced to movies.

That's a neat idea, but I don't know if I personally could resist going off-script...

Any interest in 100 Albums You HAVE TO Listen To? I'll host the goddamn thing.

That would be an interesting one because it would be relatively easy to actually listen to all the entries, I would think. (I mean, you can torrent movies too, but you usually can't watch them while doing other things).

I'd also be down with just continuing this list up to 2-, 3-, 500; whatever. Hopefully we'll get past the obvious choices eventually. And speaking of modern horror, The Cabin in the Woods has to be on the list somewhere—though I suppose as far as horror goes, it's closer to the horror-comedy side of things.

Do it!  Do it now!  Although my choices will be pretty eclectic and probably not win any polls at least I can get their names out there.

I'd be up for it.

But seriously, even though I dislike Westerns
That's a shame, Kurosawa loved 'em, which is why some of his most popular films (including 7S) are influenced by them. :)

In case anyone is interested, here's an alphabetically-sorted list of all the films submitted that did NOT win.  Though there are quite a few I've seen, I'll be looking up some of the rest from this to add to my list of 'films to see'.

I'd be up for it.

Just thought: if there's people who want to do it, but who aren't close together, they could work on it individually (choosing/assigning characters via group PMs/ICQ/whatever, then recording their own lines individually, etc.) then someone proficient with audio software could combine the individual recordings to make the final soundtrack.  That way, people could potentially contribute from around the globe, and it wouldn't require so many people to all be next-door neighbors to get done.

Yes, like I said, I'd be up for it. :)

There is a whole community of Voice Actors out there who act in shows avalible on the web and who do exactly that, the editing process just requires a certain set of technical standard to be adhered to in order for the editing process to go a little easier. Now a dub of a film is a little more difficult becasue of matching sound to picture but it's more time consuming than anything else.

I don't know that I would be interested in participating in such an endeavor but I would be interested in seeing the finished product.

Oh and the need for a new fx and BG track for the resultant dubb track (wouldn't be needed if original assets were available and the fx track can be made mostly from existing effects but still it would need to be done).

I actually think it's be a really fun project.  :)

101 - It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World

I've seen about half of the movies I have to see. A good chunk of the movies from the list I HAVE seen were... sillier movies. I have a hard time commiting myself to movies that are dark or deep. When I spend a couple hours watching a movie, I want it to be fun. It's not that I refuse to see serious or meaningful movies. I just usually need to be talked into it.

That said, there's lots of light and legendary fare on the remaining list I really should get around to. I don't know why I haven't seen Blues Brothers or Duck Soup yet...

Starman!

I hate to admit when I haven't seen classic films, but here are the ones I haven't seen.

4 - Seven Samurai (I just rented it though)
5 - Deep Throat (I'm 16, I can't legally buy it yet and I can't use BitTorrent)
16 - 2001: A Space Odyssey
18 - 12 Angry Men
19 - The Blues Brothers
21 - Once Upon A Time In The West

77 - Patton
80 - Fitzcarraldo
86 - The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
89 - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
90 - Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?
100 - Boogie Nights

Now that I'd listen to.  Of course, I don't know why it needs 5 LPs.  Unless those are 78s?

They are 78s.  That's where "albums" came from, for long works you needed a stack of records.
