Salvador Dali and Louis Bunuel's:

Un Chien Andalou  (1929)

While preparing to make this interesting and sometimes disturbing film, the only criteria that Dali and Bunuel had was that anything present in it 'must not mean anything'.  It is the 17 most bizarre minutes of film that's likely ever been shot and is also some of the most unforgettable film footage ever shot.
To dispel some of the misconceptions about head injuries you have developed from watching movies and TV, I wrote this: ...Some Information on Head Injury Effects

Tripe

Which reminds me, there are a couple of other Bunuel films that should be on this list. :)

Relaxing Dragon

Scott's got me covered for the re-nom on TCM, so I'll dust off another old choice of mine: Children of Men.

MartyS (Gromit)

Patton

The performances by everyone are fantastic, the music sticks in your head for a week, and the cinematography is great.

I liked him in Ratatouille.

The Quick and the Dead,Patton, and Gremlins for me.

Starman!

This was kind of hard too (especially not voting for Patton), but I went with Fahrenheit 9/11, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Stand By Me.

Relaxing Dragon

Children of Men's catching up, which warms my heart. TCM and Princess Bride got my other votes, they're both pretty essential when it comes to modern pop culture.

For the next round, I'm going to go with something I actually just watched: Fish Story. A Japanese movie about a comet that's about the crash into the world in 2012, and the nearly-unknown 1974 punk rock group who's song Fish Story is going to be the thing that saves the world. It's weird, but also considerably more grounded than you're all thinking right now, and is a rather funny and uplifting story about confronting fears and what sort of impact the right attitude can have on the big picture.

Seriously, it's an excellent movie that deserves a ton of love. It's also on Netflix Instant right now, so those of you who can... get on it.

Relaxing Dragon

A valid complaint when it comes to adaptations, although I guess I've benefited from not reading the book in this case (which, going off of what descriptions and synopsis I've read for it, honestly doesn't sound all that great to me).

I have found, though, that in some cases a vast difference between the book and the movie isn't always a bad thing. For instance, the V for Vendetta graphic novel is wildly different in tone and political focus compared to the movie, but I love both of them.

Smith Dr John Smith

I was never able to finish that movie.  I have no idea why it was supposed to be so great.

- how I read any complaint about MST3k (or Star Wars or Ghostbusters)

Smith Dr John Smith

That is not what I saw.  I saw just another movie with bad lighting where the camera was shaking so much I couldn't tell what was going on.
