that's right if you haven't heard J.J. Abrams (creator of Lost and Alias) director of Misison Impossible 3 is going to direct a Star Trek prequel......with the original characters at

So what actors would you want to play Kirk, Spock, and McCoy?

Ign has who they think is in the running for the roles...

Mike and the gang have gone to the star trek well enough for now. Personally I love the characters of Kirk, Spock, and McCoy. I am not a Trekkie but I do enjoy Star Trek.

yah but this isnt even a star trek movie as far as im concerned.  its barely a psuedo star trek movie.

Matt Damon seems like a decent enough choice for Kirk.  Keanu Reeves, with his stunning ability to resist any form of emotion on screen, should be Spock.   ;D

Wasn't that a parody on the Critic, with Reeves and Christian Slater in Star Trek: The X Generation? God, that show couldn't make hollywood parodies any dumber than reality.

Really? My interest in the Critic has now doubled.   :)

Phantom of Krankor

This sounds absolutly horrible. I really can't see this working.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

davo

man, their picks are pretty good!

somehow Ewan MacGregor needs to make it into this.

BF

Uh...

Aren't those picks all a decade or two old to be at the academy?
USA! USA! USA! ME! ME!

This movie is going to suck so bad.  Enterprise failed, so what makes them think another story set in the past will work?  Well, future's past.  There's been plenty of people who have brought forth great ideas to move the franchise forward.  I really need to dig up some quotes, but there was some Trek actors who agreed that Trek should be moving forward.

CBS considering animated Trek series set 150 years after Nemesis

QuoteRossi then took the advice he got from LeVar Burton on how 'Star Trek should always be about moving forward and what is next in the human adventure.' So the team came up with the notion of taking a big leap forward and setting a show 150 years after the time of Picard and Star Trek Nemesis, but in a very different and somewhat dark Trek universe.

Didn't you hear, man? Prequels are in. Why bother thinking out the future of a universe when you can just be lazy and haphazardly fill in details that nobody needed?

(*This does not apply to Casino Royale. That was a good movie.*)

Thank you, BF.  My first thought was that they were all too old for the roles unless they spent some time as faculty.   Whoever they pick, how can they avoid the temptation to imitate the original actors?  Kirk speaking without Shatner's rhythms and pauses?  "Professor....what.....is the assignment?"

Star Trek: The College Years

Yea... that sounds like an edge of your seat thrill ride. Shit, I'd rather watch another go with the cast from the original series and two of them are dead. If anyone thinks the movie is going to have anything more than a passing glance at the "academy" days, you're fooling yourselves. Paramount wants to recharge the franchise and I'm sure they will do that in typical, loud, Hollywood fashion. Sure, they might pull out some of that creepy "digital makeup" to make the primaries look 10-15 years younger for some backstory... but that's about it. Watching Spock study for finals and Kirk only scoring with chicks from his own species does not a good Trek film make.

Miss Marf

Adrien Brody and Gary Sinise as Spock and McCoy? Really? Matt Damon, maybe. I think he at least has a bit of the look, but the other two I just don't see it.

The whole project just sounds stupid. Even for a Star Trek film. I also don't think it's a good idea to fill each characters role with a well known actor.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them...well, I have others.
