Not to argue with you, but I think in order to prove Al Gore's hypothesis wrong, we'd have to have more than one year or two years of date.  We'd have to look at it over a much longer period to see patterns.  I was under the impression the movie relied on date from decades.  You can't say, "Well, last year was good so that proves the pattern of weather hasn't change."  Law of probability says that even if the pattern has changed, there still will be some "good" years.

his theories have been proven wrong by ice cores, +other observational data that suggest the earth goes through a warming/cooling cycle every 1500 years because of the sun.

did you know if we bankrupted our economy to follow the KYOTO TREATY, it would (theoretically) decrease warming by only 7/100 degrees every 50 years?!!

you tell me if that is worth it.

no

Quoteyou tell me if that is worth it.

is there some way i could become overlord of america in the ensuing panic that happens when the economy collapses?  Because if i could then surely it would be worth it

I don't think that's being doubted.  I have a nutjob friend at work that says the point that was being made is that while we're on that upswing in temps, it's rising much faster than it has in the past cycles.

they have an agenda, its pure and simple.  they also dont have enough history majors there to have an intelligent unbiased opioned.

You're my hero man...I couldn't agree more...

You know, after seeing the departed...I will utter words that shall never be repeated

Leo DiCaprio deserved an oscar for his role...I was impressed

I haven't see Blood Diamond, but peopel are saying he did an even better job in that movie. Hard to believe cuz I still think Scorcese is the best thing that ever happened to that kid =P

Anyway - Forrest Whitaker did a really good job this year. Perhaps Leo will be like Marty, and it'll take him forever to win an academy award... Wait, did he win for Titanic? I can't remember =P
J to the Pizzo

I did see Blood Diamond, and DeCaprio did a decent job but his character was so much less well written that nobody could possibly have been Oscar worthy in the role. That was even more true for the black guy with the name I can't spell, who is a really good actor but was basically relegated to "ARRRGH MY FAMILY" or "hey let's follow this here white guy around" for 90% of the movie.

That was a bad movie.

It's indubitably rising faster, as the greenhouse effect is more or less undebatable at this point. The major question is whether or not human involvement is contributing signficantly, and thus whether a massive effort on our behalf could improve things. Since the better part of the scientific community believes this, it's far from a 'nutjob' theory.

I wonder what's next on DiCaprio's list of soon-to-be-flicks:

BLINK - 2007
Sandra Miller (Kristina Klebe) is a young woman working towards corporate success. But when Jeff (Eric Alperin), a drug abuser by day; an alcoholic by night, gets fired by their boss and Sandra's long-time friend Thomas (Sean Doherty), she finds herself in great danger. After his removal, Jeff's attraction to Sandra, combined with a sense of betrayal, lead him to become dangerously obsessed. The only person she can depend on is Thomas. But can he really protect her?

^ He's not even listed in the synopsis! Interesting =P

The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt - 2008
A look at the formative years of the 26th President of the United States, from his transformation from a privileged New York politician to commander of the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War.

^ This one actually looks pretty sweet! I wonder if it'll be more of a war movie than a drama, but it's probably going to be half-and-half, which is common for a Leo movie. It's being directed by Scorcese, and sounds liek another Oscar-attempt on his part (more for Leo than himself, I'm sure).

The Chancellor Manuscript - 2008
Peter Chancellor's life becomes a mirror of his latest novel, as he becomes tangled in a web involving Washington power brokers and a blackmailed plot targeted to alter U.S. policy.

^ bleh..... lol

Guys guys guys - the solution is simple. Leave your refrigerator doors open for at least four hours each night.

I don't know, as much as I love Scorsese I don't really think historical biopics and epics are his strong point, and I wish he'd do more other stuff- of the ones he's done- I may be missing a few but I believe that this means Age of Innocence, The Aviator, Gangs of New York- I haven't really loved any, and would only actually shell out money for Age of Innocence.

I'm not saying he needs to stick to crime movies- he excels at documentaries (the one about Italy, Dylan, and the Last Waltz,) religious movies (Kundun and Last Temptation were both absolutely stunning,) and almost everything else. Basically, I think he needs to stop indulging his taste for big 50's studio movie pastiche, which is where I'd definitely put the Aviator, New York New York, and (sort of) the Color of Money.

In the words of Patrick Moore, co-founder of Greenpeace: "'Consensus' is not a science term; it's a political term."
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

The nutjob is my friend, not the theroy.  Anything that's counter to humans causing the warming he'll flat out reject.  I just showed him the article on National Geographic or something that showed that Mars is warming as well and he didn't believe it.

Hehe...I think that South Park said everything that needed to be said about global warming...
