QuoteThe year 2011 just ended so all the studios are bragging about their performance during the past year. Paramount struck first by calling attention to their record-breaking $5.17 Billion worldwide box office take. It was enough billions to put Paramount in number one place among all the studios for 2011.

Comic book movies played a big role in getting Paramount to the top. Paramount was the distribution partner for Marvel Studios on Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger. While technically not a comic book movie but rather a toy based movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon crossed over a billion dollars by itself in worldwide gross for Paramount. Ironically, Warner Bros. might have even played a role in helping Paramount to the top, as the Dark Knight Rises prologue helped Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol to get out of the gates with a strong showing.

While finishing in second place with $4.7 billion, Warner Bros. was quick to point out that they are the only studio in history to surpass the $4 billion benchmark for three consecutive years. Warner Bros. also had the top-grossing film of 2011 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. At the domestic box office, Warner Bros. is the only studio to surpass the billion dollar mark for eleven years in a row.

The Hobbit Movie PosterIn addition to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Warner Bros. also credited The Hangover Part II ($586 million), Horrible Bosses ($215 million), Final Destination 5 ($164 million), Crazy, Stupid, Love. ($148 million), and Contagion ($141 million), and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ($286 million worldwide to date). Unsurprisingly, Warner Bros. did not list Green Lantern, which brought in around $220 million worldwide, but was considered a box office disappointment.

The big news for Warner Bros. is looking ahead to 2012. The Dark Knight Rises will almost surely cross a billion in worldwide box office, while The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey likely will as well. In addition to having two almost guaranteed billion dollar worldwide box office winners, Warner Bros also has Wrath of the Titans, Dark Shadows, Rock of Ages, Argo, The Gangster Squad, and The Great Gatsby. Those six films combined could have a shot at doing $3 billion to $3.5 billion at the worldwide box office. Warner Bros. has virtually a lock on another $4 billion year in 2012, and more than likely they will exceed $5 billion with $6 billion possible being in reach.

Frankenweenie's going to be in black and white? That seems bold.

Oz looks okay, though I'm not a huge fan of the main guy.

Mrs. Dick Courier

Two movies I can't wait to see there.

Especially Frankenweenie.  A new original story from Tim Burton, it's about time!

Apparently the long lost footage from this early 80s fan project was finally exhibited at GFest, and was posted on youtube by a user from TK:

This looks exciting.  It reminds me of movies like They Live: a great mix of science fiction and satire.  This is a film that could easily go wrong, but I got to admit that I'm pretty excited for it.  Sort of reminds me of the issue of Marvel Boy with Hexus the Living Corporation, only the heroes' strategies are opposite one another.

Sorry.  I remember someone posting a poster, but not a trailer.  My bad.  There were 2 trailers on the site I found it, so perhaps it was a new one.

No, I'm sorry. I mean, who fucking cares if it was already posted? I don't even know why I pointed it out in the first place.
