Oh, boo. The last news I had heard about the Lego movie was live action mixed with stop motion Legos. I was excited for that, but not for this.

After Clone High and two adaptations that no one had much faith in beforehand, I think this directing duo has earned some faith.

This actually sounds like a great remake idea... if it comes together.

QuoteEXCLUSIVE: Adam McKay is in negotiations to develop to direct Uptown Saturday Night, the Warner Bros remake that the studio hopes will star Will Smith and Denzel Washington. Smith and James Lassiter's Overbrook Entertainment has been developing the project. Tim Dowling wrote the most recent draft.

The idea is for McKay to helm the film after he completes a sequel to Anchorman, the Will Ferrell-starrer that Paramount has set for an early 2013 start and 2014 release. McKay and Ferrell wrote that script and Judd Apatow is producing. McKay most recently helmed The Other Guys, and before that Talladega Nights. He's repped by WME.

The 1974 comedy starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier as pals who visit an illegal nightclub, and are forced to hand over their wallets to thieves. Turns out one of them contains a winning lottery ticket, emboldening the duo to bump up against the criminal element to get back the wallet. There are plenty of remakes that elicit groans. If this package comes together (Smith and Washington have long wanted to work together), with McKay's comic sensibility, this redo could be exceptional. The original cast was lined with the likes of Harry Belafonte, Flip Wilson and Richard Pryor, and the remake could follow suit by star-casting the supporting roles.

There aren't enough people in the world named Flip any more, in my opinion.

The script is being written by "Mike Bayman"?  That sounds familiar...
It's Michael Bay's non-union Mexican equivelant.

Cool. I just hope it is a sequel to the last Incredible Hulk movie, and not another reboot. And please bring Tim Blake Nelson back as the Leader!

As glad as I am to hear all the hype on how well they handled the Hulk in Avengers, I still think the design isn't as good. The face in particular looks goofy when he roars.

I really liked the Ed Norton Hulk.  I'm not against Mark Ruffalo at all, I just didn't think they needed a change.  I would also not like to see a reboot.

I am sure that if they could have gotten Ed Norton to reprise his role, they would have.  Perhaps wanting to tie him up for 6 total films made him reluctant to return.

I think it was more that Ed Norton was apparently difficult to deal with, particularly during post-production.

There are a riff or two related to that in the Incredible Hulk iRiff thaks to me.

I'm curious as to what 2 of those films will be.  It's obvious they'll want to do 2 more Avengers movies and perhaps 2 more Hulk movies, but what else.  I imagine they'll be Nick Fury/Iron Man style cameos but what other Marvel thingy might he guest in.  It could be a small thing in a Cap/IM/Thor movie, but it seems odd to make a deal just for that.  Are there any other Marvel characters where a cameo would seem appropriate?

You're just saying that because of Van Helsing.  You know, it doesn't have to be in the guise of a movie.  You can just do it.

Marvel Has Big Plans For The Hulk As Hero

QuoteMarvel execs are notoriously tightlipped and no formal announcements have been made. But now President of Consumer Products Paul Gitter tells Forbes magazine that he and his colleagues have been "pleasantly surprised by the phenomenal response" to the Hulk already – even before The Avengersopened. "His sales are up in a major way. We repositioned him from where he was always misunderstood to now depicting him in a more heroic and aspirational manner." Now fanboys have their first look at Mark Ruffalo's iteration of the Hulk and they like what they see. Gitter says Marvel "will spin him off to a stand-alone program next year," which Forbes says is "presumably supported by another big budget franchise movie in 2015. The entertainment studio is also exploring ways to promote Hulk as a 'corporate icon' similar to MetLife's usage of Peanuts' Snoopy, with Hulk's image conveying a message about channeling strength to overcome workplace challenges." This is a marked change from what Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told Collider recently. "...Every time I see a good take or a good storyline or read some good pages, I think, 'Oh should we make a movie about this?' But with the Hulk we're gonna play it very carefully. We had varying degrees of success on those first two movies, so we're not gonna say, 'Oh we did it! Another one!' We're gonna be smart about it and play it out. There are no plans right now to do another Hulk. Hulk might be just the special guest in Avengers movies, who knows?" Feige also told The Huffington Post that Marvel put "everything they had and everything they were going for into Hulk's appearance in Avengers" so it's "mission accomplished at this point." According to Collider, a Hulk TV series is in development by Guillermo del Toro and Battlestar Galactica producer David Eick that would develop the original story of Bruce Banner in his mid-20s, and Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, recently confirmed that the live-action show is in active development at ABC.

Also look for Marvel to "synergize" the Avengers into a "multi-platform brand that can live 365 days a year," Gitter says. To that end, Marvel is introducing digital initiatives, new print and comic book titles, and The Avengers animated TV series in 2013, in addition to the threequel and sequel films in the works. Although the Black Widow isn't yet scheduled for her own stand-alone movie, the character's lifestyle will inspire a collection of athletic gear and beauty products. As for whether Marvel superheroes will join Disney theme parks or star on Broadway, Gitter doesn't directly confirm these initiatives, only stating that Marvel is "exploring all land-based opportunities, including stand-alone shows and attractions."
