'ALF' Movie Lands at Sony Animation With 'Smurfs' Producer

QuoteSony Pictures Animation has closed a deal to acquire rights to the classic 1980s TV sitcom ALF and will develop the property into a CG-live action hybrid feature.

Jordan Kerner, who produced SPA's adaptation of 1980s Saturday morning cartoon staple The Smurfs and helped turn it into a hybrid blockbuster franchise, will produce the project with show creators Tom Patchett, a veteran of 1970s comedies, and puppeteer Paul Fusco.

ALF stands for Alien Life Form, and the 80s sitcom centered on a friendly furry alien creature (a puppet), who crash landed on Earth and took up with a suburban family named the Tanners. ALF, whose name was later revealed as Gordon Shumway, is sarcastic and has an appetite for cats. He courts trouble with government forces that are on his tail. The show aired on NBC from 1986 to 1990 and lasted 102 episodes.

Fusco voiced the character on the show and is expected return as the voice of ALF for the movie. In a long interview with THR in May, he expressed hope that an ALF movie would finally happen.

No writer or director is attached.

Remember Alf??? He's back...in CG live-action hybrid form.

UGH! Hey, I'll admit tht I liked Alf when I was a kid. It was one of the shows my whole family would get together to watch every week. But I really don't think a reboot is a good idea. And a CGI live action movie? Have ANY of those kinds of kids movies been any good?! Not to mention that Alf by design is easier to do as a little guy in a costume or puppetry. Why fuck with that?

Awhile back, I watched Alf on DVD through Netflix and came across some episodes of the animated series in the Special Features and found that they hadn't aged well.

Ben Affleck in talks to direct JLA?

http://www.chud.com/103136/justice-league-of-affleck/

Ironically, the thing that pops out at me most from this article is...there's a script already? I know they've been tossing the idea around for a few years, but I didn't think they had any scripts or even treatments they were close to happy with yet.

I'm not familiar with any of the movies he's directed, other than that all of them have been said to be really good. And of all the issues that Daredevil had, I don't think Affleck was one of them. So I don't hold anything against him for that.

Really, I'm mostly worried about the direction WB wants to take with having the JLA movie first and spinoff movies afterwords. I just imagine it getting too bogged down with explaining who these characters are before we can really get down to business.

Pak-Man

OK. I admit it. An ALF movie actually sounds like something I have to see. I was big into ALF back in the day, and a part of me really wants to see him in action again.

Why CG, though? 90% of ALF's cool came from the fact that he was a puppet...

Kete

I bet Affleck restructures the JL so that Daredevil is in charge.

If only Joe Dante would go to a screening like this on the east coast.

'3, 2, 1... Frankie Go Boom' Trailer: Lizzie Caplan in a Bikini, Ron Perlman Also in a Lovely Number

Quote

No matter your tastes, 3, 2, 1... Frankie Go Boom seems determined to get a "Hey, it's that person from that show I like!" out of you. The dark, offbeat indie comedy stars Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam, The IT Crowd's Chris O'Dowd, Party Down's Lizzy Caplan, Whitney's Whitney, SNL's Nora Dunn, and former Law & Order/Sex and the City regular Chris Noth in a story that seems to focus primarily on avoiding the consequences of a sex tape between Hunnam and Caplan. Here's the film's trailer, in which at least two-thirds of said female cast appears on-screen in a bra made of candy and O'Dowd shares a kiss with a transgendered Ron Perlman. There's something for everyone!

Looks kinda dumb, but it's got some really cool people in it. Also, I think I don't think I could pass up seeing Ron Perlman as a transgendered ex-con.

QuoteGreat news, Skeleton fans! Larry Blamire is setting things in motion for the third chapter in the bony anti-hero's big screen adventures, THE LOST SKELETON WALKS AMONG US! The Lost Skeleton also walks IN us if this preview of Larry's poster art is any hint! Mr. Blamire posted this detail frame on Facebook, firing the imaginations of his fans with ideas of what Dr. Paul Armstrong and the gang are in for this time! How long until the film is in the can? (More importantly for those of us in rural locations, how long until it hits disk?) I don't know about you, but I can hardly wait!
