The Ninja Turtles are going to be ALIENS now? *sigh*

Well, it was a satire/mix of all the major popular comics at the time: Teenage (Teen Titans, New Mutants) Mutant (X-Men and New Mutants) Ninja (Daredevil) Turtles (Turtles).  The style of narration is a direct take on the style that Frank Miller was employing in Daredevil and Ronin.  That said, while the book was tongue in cheek, it kinda took itself seriously-ish, albeit with an offbeat story and world.

Basically the whole joke of the original comics was "Look at this.  See this?  We are taking THIS deadly seriously."

Movie looks like generic dull garbage to me, but it's all personal taste. A Bay movie from an even worse director. It would be nice if they got somebody who actually gets it to make this, and include some of the soul of the property, like say Marvel is doing. Or a fan in general, like Christopher Nolan for Batman. Not this made by committee nonsense.  Even separate from my appreciation of the turtles comics and whatnot, this is just not a movie that looks appealing to me.

And Megan Fox is our main human emotional anchor to the Turtles in the movie... yikes. Just yikes. Such a key character requires, you know, casting.

I will say, the first thought I had after seeing this trailer is I wish it could have a rifftrax on it right in the theater. The boys need to make this happen somehow! Right off the bat I feel like this movie and it's hideous terrifying Turtles will be beautiful fodder for a riff, it must happen. Plus it's similar tone to Bay's Transformers flicks, which were excellent riff fodder.

Maybe they should just sell the rights for the Turtles to Marvel, and someday we can get the TMNT Daredevil crossover that the origin story hinted at.

Watched the trailer.  Doesn't look that good to me, but I thought that the joke at the end was pretty cute.  They look a little over-designed though, in terms of tools and weapons.

I think a lot of people are basing too much on just a minute twenty second teaser.

Although the bamboo venetian blinds thing Leonardo is wearing still looks amazingly stupid.

Something bothers me about the noses. The addition of those pug noses changes the look from turtle to Quasimodo. It's just design, and I can forgive design if they can get a good story behind it, but it's going to take some getting used to.

The face is very Shrek-like. And the mouths...they could go either way when we see them talk more.

Yeah, I hated the trailer. Even though he's producing and not directing, it still had Micheal Bay's stink all over it.

At least the TV show is good. And yes, I will continue to insist that despite how many friends of mine-- friends I expected to be more open-minded-- look at me like I'm crazy when I say that. Don't let the word "Nickelodeon" cause you to dismiss what's a really clever, enjoyable, and at many times honest-to-god FUNNY (like, smart funny, not just wacky slapstick) show. But again, I say all this and I'm always just met with a look that seems to say:

"Yuh-huh, well you go enjoy your little show, sport. I'm gonna go be an ADULT. . ."

Their loss, but it IS irritating.
