VIVA IL ESORDIO DEL DIABETE ADULTO DUCE!!!

I loved the credits bit. Do that kind of thing more often.

Phantom of Krankor

Oh yes that rifftrax was quite..... remarkable.... mmmm..... oh yes... mmmm.
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Despite the avatar and username, it was a 2nd joke at posting a picture of a character named Twilight in the Twilight thread...

Nope.

And you do realize there's a reference to the show in the riff, right?

Unlike prior Twilight riffs (all three of which I thought were 9-or-10 star), this one seemed to have no new clever comments.  It seemed that the comments in this one were far more just complaining than it was riffing.  And, seriously, when complaining about the lack of maturity of a film's content, to then go on and make somewhere between 6-12 "I can't fart" comments really is the pot calling the kettle black... fart jokes are more appropriate to six and seven year olds; at least the film was in its early teens (until the birth, when the film rapidly jumped to what should be NC-17 to avoid traumatizing pubescent girls about reproduction).

Have the guys lost their ability to interpret implications in films without things being spelled out for them?  [Thinking in particular of the 'playing chess' segments.  That was the clearest way to say, "they're on a romantic get-away on a private island in - basically - paradise, and they are doing boring things because Edward refuses to screw again because Bella got two bruises."]  Cuz' if that's the case, it's sort-of annoying that they then complain when things are spelled out for them.

I don't have any love for the film, but bashing it and complaining about the content, and making funny comments derived from its content are very different things.  This riff did far more of the former and almost none of the latter.  Complaining isn't funny: I can do that myself when I don't care for a film (or better still: just turn it off).   When riffing, unlike in mathematics, multiplying two negatives together does NOT make a positive, it makes a worse negative.

I think I smiled maybe two to three times in the whole film.  Well, there's a riffing I likely won't listen to again.

Overall it was pretty good except the movie, compared to the others, was really drawn out and I was getting slightly bored half way through, the pacing was terrible. They did the best with what they had because the "story" centered around something more serious than the previous movies. Also not many of the side players had any dialogue which would also decrease possible material. I think part 2 will be a better riff than part 1 just because the characters can move on from depressed to mildly depressed, but then again I have no idea since I haven't read the book. Hopefully Aro will have some remarkable scenes but in the end I doubt it can top the original movie riff.

Yeah, I noticed a "Brony" riff in it, but it seemed to me to be an anti-Brony one.

The riff-itself wasn't too bad, I'd say average Riff and maybe the "worst" of the Twilight movie riffs mostly because, as pointed out my the guys, the movie is so filled with nothing and padding there's not a whole lot to riff on.   I didn't much like the "riffing" during the credits, would have preferred all three of them doing a much more "traditional" credits riff maybe while doing the Vulturie (?) voices but this set just mostly seemed to be Mike and Bill doing "ohhs" and "mmmms."  Not a lot of "riffing", humorous at first but a bit tiresome as the credits wore on.  I was totally expecting them to make fun of the guy named "Booboo", but would've have expected them to really let loose on it.

Yes, I agree and noticed the same type of complaining riff style in Ghosthouse. I hope this isn't a new trend.  :speechless:

Trekker4747

Eh, I don't mind the "complaining" riff-style. It depends on the movie and the movie's tone, there were plenty of times in MST3K where the riffing was more complaining and griping than it was making fun of the movie but I look at it as just being the type of movie it is and when we're looking at a movie aimed at teenage girls that is mostly filled with filler montages, filler blank stares, filler seething angsty looks, and stuttering conversations it's hard to NOT blame the guys for getting a bit moody.  ;)

Droppo

Agree with Trekker.  Since the MST3K days, I've always loved when a film gets to the guys and they unleash their frustration.  I thought each time they lashed out was hilarious....Bill's "do something" monologue was a highlight of the whole riff for me.

I never understood that criticism.

Really the only line of humor that I'm not a fan of is the scatological.   But, I'm not offended by it...just feel it's the least interesting.

That said...great riff.  The whole Twilight series has been a home run for Rifftrax.

If you are being literal in your statement, "I never understood that criticism," I'll explain [some use that statement either as hyperbole or rhetorically, the reason for my qualifier there].

The reason that - at least, I - don't think 'lashing out' and simply complaining is funny is because it takes no imagination or cleverness whatsoever to do it.  I can easily complain myself if I feel the need to hear that; I don't need to pay to hear someone else do so.  In addition, for me, it is irritating to hear others complain about something they can do something about: the guys can choose to not riff the film if they find it so oppressive that they can't come up with something clever to say throughout.

I do not find other people's anger or frustration amusing.  As an adult I realized that it because I feel it is a distinct lack of empathy to do so.  I do not find others' emotional distress, or others' injuries, to be amusing for the same reason.  If one were to laugh in person at such things, it would be cruel; to laugh at others' misfortune is not acceptable human behavior to me, in the way I choose to interact with the world.  [Never in my life have I liked the Three Stooges, Tom & Jerry, Donald Duck, Don Rickles, or things like boxing (two people beating each other up with the intent to cause brain trauma is not a sport), for this very reason.]

I do agree that the scatological, including fart jokes (such as were heavily represented in this film... actually, the same joke repeated between 6-12 times), are also not funny.  Because they also don't require any thought to generate or for the listener to 'process' as humor, and therefore, they aren't funny to me.

However: wordplay, obscure cultural references which parallel or build off of things on-screen?  Those I generally find funny.

Hopefully that helps explain - at least from my standpoint - what you said you had difficulty understanding.
