QuoteAnd the "no sex until marriage" thing DID originate with them.

I assume you mean the add campaign, and certainly not the over all concept.

 :D
They have procreating competitions with the Catholics to see who can build up their church more. :D

The Bible doesn't mention premarital sex, and the Catholics' hang-up is that sex should only be for procreation, whether you're married or not.

Well it does mention in the 7th commandment that "Thou shalt not commit adultery." Most people consider having sex with anyone except your wife, before or during marriage, is a violation of that commandment.
Also, there are several condemnations against premarital sex in these verses: Acts 15:20; Romans 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:13,18; 7:2; 10:8;  2 Corinthians  12:21; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Jude 7

So next time, you might wanna consider doing a little research before throwing things out there like that.

yeah sorry beenie, the bible makes LOTS of mention of it.  Those are some excellent verses (versus?) to look up.  The just doenst use the word premarital ;)

gbeenie

I've re-read those Bible verses; and, although many of them are pretty vague, they seem to support your point -- if you go by the modern English definition of the word fornication. In addition to the word's varied linguistic history, it is also used in the Bible to connote things other than sexual conduct. So I honestly don't know.

This is just another reason why basing your personal morality on a religious text from the Bronze Age is a TERRIBLE idea (ya know, if the fact that the Bible contradicts itself throughout, endorses racism, slavery and genocide, and has served as the blueprint for 2000 years of human misery weren't enough for you).

The Holy Bible isn't personally responsible for human misery for 2000 years. The interpreters of the Bible are. You can switch around anything to make a point that fits with your agenda. When I read my bible, I don't see anything in Christ's words that tell me to kill non-believers(but rather focus the most time, attention, and love toward them), but Crusaders of the middle ages interpreted that message in order to justify killing Muslims. I could take all your posts, gbeenie, and possibly interpret them to say that you wished 3/4 of the world populace would die off. It wouldn't be true, but I am just holding you to the same standard that you seem to endorse in order to prove its fallacy. I know you might be in a fighting mood, but I try not to step on toes around here regarding sensitive issues(other than the Mormon-Catholic remark, which was not said with a malicious intent, just as friendly ribbing). I would appreciate the same level of respect out of all the other members in here, and I am sure that the feeling is mutual. It would just make it a whole lot nicer environment.

Sorry, I know you don't want to argue, but I just wanted to make one point.  It's the very fact that the Bible can be interpreted so many different ways that I have a problem with.  If it can be interpreted to mean many different things, how can you know that your interpretation is correct?  Though your point is well taken.  People might have found a way to do the evil they did even without the Bible.  Though having a document based on interpretations that you are supposed to live your life by can be a dangerous thing.

But I'm sure gbeenie will reply in a much lengthier, and unintentionally abrasive manner.  However, I disagree with you, I think the fact that members can talk about this kind of stuff is exactly what makes the environment in this board so nice.  I'm sorry if you disagree.

And to get back on topic... Is Batman Catholic?

Well I've read your posts, and you seem to enjoy misery, so....

Go figure. And if you read up a little on the human psyche, philosophy, and the subject of relativity, I'm sure you will see that anything can be interpreted in any # of ways, including Darwin's Origin of Species.

A Texas man could interpret Batman to say that killing is fantastic.

I understand you don't like me, and you don't have to continue the discussion if you don't want to, but your post is pretty meaningless.

this isn't a fault of the bible its a FREAKEN LONG LONG book.  which i think is to clarify things, but its human nature to take things out of context and make them convent for stuff they already believe.  You could take the back of a box Ritz crackers and read it to 12 people and even something as simple as that would have 12 different interpretations

It's not that I don't like you, I don't hate anyone here (with the exception of Pak-man, that smug little.. ;))

It's just that there is enough pain and obstacles in life already, w/o more having to be heaped on because someone feels like its necessary. Someone likened this forum to a Cheers-like bar, and that's the way I feel. This is one of the places that I wanna come to have a good time.
