Minority Report: Why does everyone love this movie?

For me, the stupidity of this movie rests in the whole sequence of exchanging his eyeballs, which brings us to the inevitable dropping of one of his eyes when he takes it from the baggie later.  Of course, he's in a sloping hallway with a big ole drain at the bottom and just narrowly avoids losing them.  My bullshit detector was buzzing already but went full-tilt during this sequence, which wouldn't have been out of place in a 3 Stooges short.
The point of the whole movie is to make us realize that this fictional crime-detection system would be a horrible trampling of everyone's rights, but I thought you could establish that in a 10-minute short.

Gotta admit, it was pretty funny... intentionally or not lol

Whoa... a movie set in the future and based on time travel had your bullshit detector buzzing? That's a finely tuned machine you got there.

starfighter

What time travel?  They were using pre-cogs to predict the future but nobody was traveling there.
But you're right, time paradoxes make for built-in plotholes.

Nunyerbiz

See... my reply was bullshit and you detected that too!

2.  Good, almost photo-realistic effects and technology...I imagine we'll be seeing things like tailored ads, VR porn, computer displays and ubiquitous billboards in my lifetime...possibly in this decade.
.

true, but i don't think we'll be seeing a guy CHASE HIS EYEBALLS DOWN A STAIRCASE!

heheh...

Wanna bet? AND we'll be seeing it in HoloVision...  :)

I enjoyed Minority Report.  It's not the greatest movie ever made, but it was decently put together, and kept me involved for the most part.  Plus it had the strapping Buck Compton from Band of Brothers.

Quoteas far as I know the results of those are not and probably never will be made admissable in any US court.

only because intent to do something isnt always relevant to the trial.  certainly they would never allow a machine that could determine something like truth into a trial.
I think in some cases it is, for example selling drugs and terroristic activities.

Tom Cruise or no, that movie sucks balls.

none of it was at all ergonomic (is it really ergonomic to stand and wave your hands around in the air? Yes, that's MUCH better than using a keyboard...),

Well it IS better than using a mouse, which is the point of the manual menu manipulation.  He's using voice recognition software and a headset instead of a keyboard.

I blame Minority Report for unleashing Colin Ferrell on an unsuspecting world ... aside from that however the movie is cool.

Neat! Now we just need some flying cars. Back to the future says it's only 8 more years! :^)
