For this year, I'm going to attempt and *not* watch anything I watched last year.

Yeah, we'll see how well that goes.

Got a great start on this thanks to watching Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness tonight. See if I can keep this up. Erica and I challenged ourselves to watch no movies other than horror this month (tv shows can be anything, but if it's a movie it's gotta be horror or Halloween themed somehow.

A nightmare on elm street - 1984: I'm not sure if this movie gave birth to the whole
"Teenagers who have sex are fucking dead" cliche, but who cares?
No, Halloween and Friday the 13th predated NoES by several years and the trope is much stronger in them.
For some reason I didn't remember Halloween, and I've actually never seen Friday the 13th.

Alright, time to get things rolling (just finished up my first, and as I've still got an hour to go until tomorrow, I made it). Like last year I'll keep my running total in this post, and post individual movies as I get through them. Maybe not all of them, and definitely without any sort of proper review (well, maybe one every now and again), but I'll do my best. And while I dig Compound's idea of not watching any I watched last year, I don't think I'll be able to stick to that (I will try to do it as much as I can, but some just need a repeat this year). I'll hide the death counts and scariest bits, as they're usually going to be spoilers.

10/1 - 28 Days Later

10/8 - MISSED
10/9 - MISSED
10/10 - Amusement
10/11 - The Perfect Host
10/12 - Dr. Mordrid

10/16 - I Saw the Devil
10/17 - Land of the Dead
10/18 - Event Horizon
10/19 - The Woman
10/20 - Paranormal Activity 3
10/21 - The Serpent and the Rainbow
10/22 - Cold Prey, The Burning, Day of the Dead (1985)
10/23 - Dawn of the Dead (1978)
10/24 - Mother's Day
10/25 - In the Mouth of Madness
10/26 - Red State
10/27 - Ghostbusters, Hellbound: Hellraiser 2
10/28 - The Devil's Chair
10/29 - Trick 'r Treat
10/30 - The Thing (1982)
10/31 - Zombie

28 Days Later. Been ages since I've seen this one all the way through. Still an excellent film, even if it being copied and imitated so much as left it without as much of a punch as it once had. Still a good, gritty ride, and those Rageheads are a freaky bunch (I can be a smartass and call this a zombie movie without any zombies, but I won't. I also won't count this towards the zombie achievement, so there). I dig this one pretty much all the way through (yes, even the soldier parts), even if I don't think it's quite as great as it was one heralded to me (game changer yes, but not great). Also, I could've sworn Mark Strong was the Major at the end. But, I guess not.

Movie number two was Hostel. I'm an unapologetic Eli Roth fan and I've always enjoyed this one. Not as good as Cabin Fever but It's probably the best of the so-called "torture porn" genre. 4/5

Day 2. Friday the 13th Part II.

This is relatively easy so far.

It starts that way...especially considering October started on a weekend this year. Just wait until week 2... ;)

The first Friday the 13th is a LOT slower than even a typical bad slasher movie that we would come to know them as. I, personally, can't stand that movie. But I will say it is worth watching at least once. And now with Hor-Riff-ic's newly improved riff released, it is the best way to watch it. Oh, and if you do watch the movie, be prepared for the WORST KILLER REVEAL IN HISTORY! It's laughably bad, really.

Well, I just finished "Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror." Does that count?

No?

Okay, moving on then...

#2 - Dawn of the Dead (2004)

I can't believe I haven't seen this until now! This was a blast of a zombie movie. Cool characters, good gore, intense as hell at times, and really funny at other times. That opening zombie scene was wild, as was the escape scene at the end. The musical montage was fantastic. I've seen all but one (Legend of the Guardians) of the Zack Snyder movies, and I've enjoyed them all to one degree or another.

Yeah, I really liked the remake, too. In fact, I probably liked it much better than the original, as I'm not all that impressed by the original (I much prefer Day of the Dead).

Movie #3- The Creeping Terror

Yes, somehow I have an unriffed copy of this and I'm watching it straight. The lack of riffing isn't making it any better at all.

And I'm watching it because somehow the "Look at My Torso" song snuck into my head this morning.

And then I turned around and watched it again. This time with the commentary of that idiot from Wisconsin and the golden spiderduck and crimson pig.

BTW? I counted on-screen 23 deaths in this, which makes this the most gory film seen so far. Most slasher films top out at around a dozen victims. (And I probably missed a few as I only counted 3 actual deaths during the dance scene, and that place was packed.)

EDIT: This WAS originally my list for the day, but I figured it would be best to just edit my initial post, so everyone can see what day I drop the ball on.

To fill the space, yes, I do like the new Dawn of the Dead. I like the old Dawn of the Dead. However, this is the third time I've watched Day of the Dead and not Dawn of the Dead, so it's weird what ones I'll watch and not watch. Only so many days, gotta pick and choose.

But Day of the Dead...man, what a sucker punch on this one...

By the way, for the record, the onscreen victims does NOT include zombies and/or aliens, cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers, or any of the many monstrosities that are monsters from the get go. HOWEVER, if a character BECOMES a zombie or monster during the course of the film, they ARE counted (if they are subsequently destroyed post-conversion, obviously).

Actually, now that I think about it, one character that became a zombie never got finished off in Day...so my math is off by one. Ah, well, what's one? ;)

ended up watching a good part of the hellraiser series last night/this morning. im a fan of barker's writing and especially that game he made, jericho, but only a few of his movies seem to catch my interest. hellraiser 2 and 3 were pretty good except the new cenobites at the end of 3 looked like borg ripoffs and were kind of cheesy. i mean how scary is a fat guy with a drink shaker walking towards you?
with all thes zombie movies, guides, even zombie sports (my university holds a zombie fighting game every year. i think the human race is relatively prepared for the zombie apocalypse
