The way i figure it, if lucas lives long enough and keeps doing these "fixes" we will have a hip hop version of the opening credits.

And thus, rapping Jar Jar was born.

I'd much prefer something like this:

CROW:  (Sinisterly) The Secret Government Eggo Project...
--Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie

"Jason, Chess is a game of chance."

He is in it for the money and im fine with that. What baffles me though is his changes SEEM universally derided but they always seem to rake in a butt load of cash.  Its kinda hard for me to think george is the crazy one under those circumstances.

As I've said, I don't give a shit how many changes he makes. And while I think his net worth is obscene, money is not the primary issue for me. Just don't create a situation where people don't have the option of buying the unmolested original trilogy on BD. I believe this is where the disappointment/anger comes from: that people aren't given a choice and end up buying something that bothers them. I'm not gonna buy this set. I'll rent the BDs from Netflix. It's not like I have to see it when it comes out.

I hear the disco theme rumor was just confirmed by Lucasfilm.

They also just confirmed that some footage from the interior Death Star chases will be added.

Spoiler

VIVA IL ESORDIO DEL DIABETE ADULTO DUCE!!!

Nah, Lucas isn't smart enough to do something that funny.

that is the BEST goddamn version of the Star Wars theme outside the original version.

If he was really in it for just the money then why would he bother making changes that clearly cost money?

Honestly, i could make sound changes like that on my own with little to no cost at all.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NOOOOO!!! Okay great! Let's move on.

There are two theories that im sure neither are entirely accurate.  One is that he makes the changes because he know they will turn a positive profit.  The other is that he is personally not satisfied with what he considers his baby and will keep tweaking it till death.  I would imagine its actually a mix of both plus some third thing we dont really know.

Sure, if it was just you doing it yourself with your computer mic. But since Lucas ISN'T just doing it by himself, each sound effect change means he has to pay AT THE VERY LEAST Ben Burtt and whoever's editing the video, and each VFX change means paying at least one or two ILM guys, plus there's general office staff and probably countless other behind the scenes positions we don't notice.

Well, since George Lucas has more money than NASA... it's basically costing him nothing.

True. But NOT making the changes would cost even less, and make just as much money. He has some motivation other than cash alone, even if it doesn't make any sense to us.

Okay, here's my stupid theory, but it somehow makes sense. I think George Lucas makes his
employees pay him for the privilege of for working for him.
