WOW!!! That was probably the wildest ten minutes of baseball I've ever seen.

Yeah, one wild night.

Wow, Red Sox and Braves complete their implosions.

Man the Braves went downhill fast, the Phillies were barely playing tonight and the Braves had to win and they couldn't...

Didn't seem like the Yankees were playing real hard either, but how could the Red Sox loose to the Orioles?

Charlie is now the manager with the most wins for the Phillies.

Going to be a crappy start time Saturday for the Phillies-Cardinals game if they are still game 1, with shadows all over the field for a good chunk of the game.

Yeah, it seems as if the most deserving teams out of Rays/Red Sox and Braves/Cardinals are moving on.

Congrats to Bob!  :)

And k1, I can only imagine how rough that was to watch unfold.  >:(

Bring on the playoffs! Should be good stuff.

130am and still buzzing.    I was the designated driver so the buzz is emotions.

Cardinal fans were easily 2/3rds of the crowd in Houston and it was electric in the stadium.    We all were very politely smiling and grinning at each other all night..    Astro fans were very gracious too.   Cards got 5 runs in first and Carp DESTROYED the Astros......he could have went 15 innings.    After game, we went to sports bar near the stadium to watch the Braves game and it was SRO with card fans in cards jerseys.   It was like being in Stl!    Everyone was chanting, cheering, yelling, hugging.......it was like Mardi Grad.    Words fail me at the positive emotions and FUN that was had.   When the Phillies won, the place just exploded.  Downtown was full of screaming, high fiving olks.  This was the best thing ever!!!!!!

I cannot imagine any sporting moment EVER surpassing this.

k1, I know you must be feeling the polar opposite of this and I am sorry

SO HELP ME IF THIS DECISION MEANS THE END OF THE @NOTCOACHTITO TWEETS I'M GOING TO KICK A PUPPY IN THE FACE!   :gouge:

Related note, let's get rumors of Varitek as manager next season started!

Ok, now I need to go drink til I can't feel feelings anymore.  I'm freaking miserable today.  This blows.  I'm gonna miss Tito.  Best manager in Sox history.

D.B. Barnes

Whaaaaaaat?!?

That's a short-sighted, stupid-ass decision if I ever saw one.

I think he is a great manager and letting him go is a horrible knee jerk reaction.   Why rush into this decision?

k1

Supposedly he asked to not have his option picked up.  Felt he couldnt get through to some guys in the clubhouse to get things running the way he wanted. (like a few starting pitchers drinking in the clubhouse during games on days they weren't playing, guys not staying in shape, cliques, etc)

Oh, okay. That makes a lot more sense. I wonder why he lost the respect of some of the players.I also wonder how long it had been going on, as in, did it coincide with the collapse.

The only think Wakefield drinks in the clubhouse is Ensure.  ;D

Interesting.

Owners press conference someone asked "if he wanted to stay would you have picked up his option?"

Answer was a complete non-answer.  So essentially "no".

He and Lackey definitely didn't get along. Lackey was always pissed when he was getting pulled and act like he had no clue why he was getting yanked.

I hated the Lackey signing from day 1.

Lackey seems like he'd be a complete asshole. I don't know what happened to him as a pitcher, though. He was solid for the Halos, but man, did he ever go off the rails in Boston. What a total disaster.

Wow, didn't know the Sox were falling apart that bad, a loosing streak is one thing, but not being professional is worse.  Sounds like he needed to kick some butts, here Charlie would never stand for players not playing the game the right way, hell he benched Rollins a few years ago because he didn't run out a ground ball.  Francona couldn't do that up there?  Was the management not behind him?

When Francona was the Phillies manager back in the late 90's he got wins with very little talent.   He was the best of the 3 managers we had from 1994 to 2004.

He had a closed door meeting after a win in Toronto about a month ago where he laid into them.  Results? The disaster of September. (Meeting was mainly about the lack of respect like the drinking, players complaining about the hotels, bus rides to stadiums, and the lack of "teamwork")

He also mentioned he didn't know how much support he had from upper management.

I know in the past there was issues where he wanted to bench or discipline players (Manny, Nomar, Pedro) for various things like leaving the park early, not running out ground balls, refusing to enter the game as a pinch hitter, but was told he couldn't.  In Tito's FIRST GAME as manager Pedro left the park in the 5th inning & he couldn't do anything about it.
