A short viral video has just been released, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland.  It is awesome:

See, this is how you do viral marketing: make it bleed into the world we know.

If it bleeds into the world we know, we can kill it.

Awesome,  indeed. I'll attest that Pearce was channeling Holm's Ash throughout the speech, and I don't believe that was coincidental. I also really enjoyed the allusion to the space jockey technology via fire. What a great three-minute tease.

Yeah, I was nervous and disappointed at first that they were going in this direction when it came to an Alien prequel-type thing. I was expecting something more directly related to the franchise rather than the story merely occurring in the same universe as the franchise. However, this more subtle handling of the concept that they seem to be going for is looking more intriguing to me now. I hope they really use that subdued, dark atmosphere the first movie had too to keep it consistent.

QuoteApparently this is supposed to be a star map control room on one of the spaceships featured in Prometheus, most likely from an alien vessel. An unidentified human (or otherwise) character stands in the center of this beautiful galactic tableau. Could this be the space jockey's ship we're seeing?

Spoilered for huge.

I love that picture so much. That's my kind of sci-fi right there, the kind that's just awe-inspiring.

It's interesting to see that room in its working form. I do fear however that much like 2010, a lot of the mysteries set up in 2001 may be spoiled.

It just looks like a videogame to me.

That just means you're old, Im.  :)

Will be in IMAX, but with the IMAX comes 3D.

Yeah, I saw the 3D thing on a poster for it a week or two ago.

It's a shame, but for this movie, I shall endure.

I guess it's being filmed in 3D though, so that's better than post conversion.

As I don't really notice 3D no matter how it's shot or how good it works, it makes no particular difference to me. Just a few extra dollars I've got to fork over for the midnight show :P

I thought I was the only one who really couldn't tell if something was 3D or not. 3D movies still look two dimensional to me (and yes, when I'm wearing the glasses).
