They're obviously saving the monsters for later in the marketing cycle.

Yeah, they had me at giant monsters attacking the city. Add giant robots to the mix and you've got a heck of a summer popcorn flick. :^)

I really don't know what to think.  It's basically Cloverfield meets Real Steel.

I can maybe see Real Steel but where are you getting Cloverfield from?

What I mean is the monster looks like the one from Cloverfield to me.  Besides, I couldn't afford to see this in the theaters even if I wanted to.  That's what happens when you haven't worked since April 2010.   :'(

I'll hopefully change my mind if another trailer comes out.  I really want to like this.

ManUnderMask

I still love Del Toro described it at the Legendary Pictures panel at Comic Con: Giant F**king Monsters vs. Giant F**king Robots.

That should have become the tagline.
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

We all think it looks great, but I wonder if it has that sort of cross over appeal that'll make it a genuine hit?  If so, I think maybe something like Transformers has paved the way for this sort of thing.

Pak-Man

Well the crossover, as I see it, is mecha anime and giant monster movies. You could make the argument that it's a western take on the Super Sentai (think: Power Rangers) genre. I think this one is going to do really well in Japan.

Bob

The acting actually looks like they got good ones too.

Whoop.

Here's an interview/commentary on the trailer. The shit won't embed.

You think people reading a thread about a movie are going to get annoyed about hearing Guillermo talk about it?

Quite the contrary, which is why I posted the link to the video in the first place.

My commentary was merely a harmless jest at our society's propensity for over-analysis.
