It looks like I'm several months late into the conversation about Star Wars EU books but I'm a big fan of them.  I own all of them and have re-read many of them.  These are some of my favorite Star Wars novels (not in any particular order):

1.  New Jedi Order - Traitor by Matt Stover
2.  Legacy of the Force series by Aaron Allston/Karen Traviss/Troy Denning
3.  X-Wing series by Michael Stackpole/Aaron Allston
4.  Republic Commando series by Karen Traviss
5.  Outbound Flight by Timothy Zahn
6.  Shatterpoint by Matt Stover

I'm currently waiting for Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice to get here.  I can't wait to see what happens next in this series.

Anyway, I'm also a big fan of Glen Cook's Garrett series.  Very good books.
Imrahil: Don't care about Riding with Death.

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

Watership Down is my favorite book, and has been pretty much since I was a kid.  It's the only book that I'll read once every 18 months or so.  Just love it.

Have you read any other Richard Adams?

The Plague Dogs and Tales From Watership Down.  I didn't like either as much.

The second one was the ones I was going to ask your opinion of.

Hardly anything in that book engaged me as much as the original Watership Down.  Maybe Adams let too much time pass between writing them.  I don't know.  It just didn't grab me at all.

I've never got round to reading it. I think I picked up a copy in a remainders book store years ago.

Take a look at Maia, it's....different from his other work, I'll say that for it.

It's, er, "hotter" that's for sure.

Oh my god The Master and Margarita is superb! Ever read Heart of a Dog?

Reductio_ad_absurdum

G.K. Chesterton - The Man Who Was Thursday, Orthodoxy, and The Everlasting Man.
C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity
Frank Peretti - This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness (these awakened me to writing), The Oath (this is what Christian fiction should be like), and House
Ted Dekker - Thr3e, Showdown, and House (this was a joint authorship).
Stephen Baldwin - The Unusual Suspect
Shusaku Endo - Silence
Brian Jacques - Redwall series of books (though he seems to be retreading plotlines now to me)
Hiromu Arakawa - The Fullmetal Alchemist
Yuichi Kumakura - Jing: King of Bandits
Mizuki Kawashita - Ichigo 100% (its a very fanservicey, high school romance manga, but damn was it addictive.)

I thought about this recently, and I'd have to go with Enders Game.  Even though the book has spawned countless sequels, this story has a definite beginning and ending that left me quite satisfied.

The only thing that makes me a little sad is the contant rumor mill concerning the movie version.  I just think they will get this movie all wrong and I hope that it will remain in limbo.
Anytime someone offers you 10,000 to 1 odds, you take it.
Lets just say if John Mellancamp ever wins an Oscar, I'll be a rich man.

Wasn't Haley Joel Osmet going to be in that at one point?
