Nor should he be.......... This is a Joss universe only

Not necessarily to knock Whedon, but with the sole exception of Buffy, if anyone deviates from his stated vision he loses his mind and goes on rant after rant...and if they DO stay on target, they get cancelled.  Quickly.

Either Joss Whedon is the unluckiest man on Earth, or he loves rubbing people the wrong way.

In any case, his response definitely sounds miffed, but in a comedic sort of way, as in, "Yeah, I'm not happy, but what can you do?  That's the way the ball bounces."

That slayer outfight is the utmost in tastelessness and yet still not sexy at all just gross.

I guess whit must be the lover of some executive somewhere?

But on the other hand whedon is doing the avengers so how much more of a sellout could he be? And also if up to him buffy would have just been a waitress. It also sounds dumb to ask if vampires are in style. Throwing in some huge dramatic change like that based merely on trendiness is a horrible way to operate.

I love Firefly, and respect Joss for his creativity, but he can be a whiny loser sometimes.
"Hey, you kids! Those boxes are for shipping! Not for creating a world of pure imagination!"

Doctor Who?

I have never watched Buffy the Tv show or movie but wasn't the TV show a remake of the movie?

If so I don't see how the guy behind the remake can complain about his remake being remade.

Well, he wrote the movie.... so it was not really a remake.   I just dont think that you can take something so associated to someone and it is that person (and the other writers) that made the show what it was, toss it to someone else and expect there not to be a fan backlash.    Dont really know who the target audiance is for this.

I've never been much of a Buffy follower, but I think Whedon was the original creator of the whole thing. Hollywood took his screenplay, changed things around and then made a shitty movie. Then he regained control and made a shitty TV series. Now somebody else has control and will make a shitty movie all over again. Circle of life and all that...

Oh Ok I had never heard that he had anything to do with the movie.

I guess in that case he has a right to be upset.

You thought that letter was whiny? It was way too tongue in cheek to seem whiny to me. It only reminded me that, as much as I may enjoy some of Joss's shows, movies, and web musicals, I adore his random bits of hilarious prose even more. His interview with his brother Jed about his new album is one of the funniest things ever.

My personal favorite was his offer to buy the Terminator franchise for $10,000.

Yes, it's intentionally silly, but I wonder about the "More Summer Glau" comment...I mean, it's not like she's ever appeared in anything Joss Whedon has made, right?   ;)

As for the funny things I've heard about Whedon, he was upset by the way they made Buffy the movie, so Buffy the TV show was his rebuttal.  Then he wrote Alien: Resurrection, and then went on to say (paraphrased), "Well, it's not that they took the script and changed it...what they did was make the script exactly how I wrote it, but filmed it all wrong."

I certainly understand the desire for creative control, and about what will happen to your idea when a bunch of suits look at it and decide, "You know what would make this zombie movie better?  A rap battle!"  But if you're always bitter about relinquishing ANY creative control, it's only going to make you unhappy about anything you do.

That said, it does seem like he has a sense of humor about it, so he's got that going for him.
