Can it be that the celluloid gods have heard my embittered pleas and taken action? Is it true that Platinum Dunes has left the Friday the 13th franchise behind after one shockingly awful entry that missed the point entirely? Right now all signs are pointing to 'yes'.

The folks over at Friday the 13th's official site are reporting that Brad Fuller, Andrew Form and co. are vacating Camp Crystal Lake and that Warner Bros. is currently searching for a new creative team to resurrect Jason Voorhees once again. Warner, I'm just throwing this out there ... I'm available.

Of course, there has been no official word yet from the studio in charge, Warner Bros., but the folks at the Friday the 13th site claim they've been sitting on this for a while and the information is good. We'll bring you more as we have it, but let's cautiously rejoice in the meantime!

UPDATE
The site that broke the story seems to be back-peddling a bit by removing the original bit of news and changing the story. We have feelers out to Platinum Dunes. Expect a comment soon.

Come now, who doesn't want a Pot-Grower-Jason action figure?
I survived the San Diego Comic Con 2010 Hall H stabbing.

Hey, if Platinum Dunes doesn't have it's hands on the property anymore, at least that is a HUGE step up.

If another studio makes a sequel (or just a reboot would be best) I wish they would have a Michael Bay lookalike who gets killed.

I see no problem whatsoever with them developing a sequel. I found their first one to be a solid entry to the franchise (because people always seem to forget it contains mega-crap like Part II and Jason Takes Manhattan). Good gore, plenty of sex, comic relief that mostly worked, and one of the best Jasons ever... really, what more do people want in a Friday the 13th movie?

I dug the first 'Dunes' Friday too, although I did think it sort of peaked with the sleeping bag over the fire.  Jason being used like Jaws (imo) as opposed to a supernatural yokel was pretty fun too.  Wasn't there some talk of a sequel being set in the snow a while ago?
