I have been a member of Rifftrax for over a year now and have successfully downloaded various files onto my computer, but as of late nothing seems to want to download.
I have been trying to download a NTSC (being Canadian) file of Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions and the zip files are downloaded to my computer but for some reason it refuses to open because apparently there is no "application" that it can be opened under, not even under iTunes (where most of my rifftraxs are kept).  I own a Mac Notebook which I've had since 2007, but it never had this problem before since I just started here back in December 2009.

Although, now that I think about it, my computer has gone under repair this past summer.  Is there something my computer is missing that will allow me to download NTSC files or any files again?

if it's the zip file that not decompressing, then it certainly sounds like something got deleted during the repair. dunno how that could happen. if you right-click (or ctrl+click) on the zip file, and go to the "open with >" menu option, what shows up there? ideally "archive utility" should still be on your machine, as it's part of the system.

google turned up this thread that might help: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=451401

otherwise, you could use something like stuffit expander: http://www.stuffit.com/mac-expander.html

edit: what version of mac os are you using?

"Files won't download" and "files won't unzip" are two totally different things. If the file tries to expand, but doesn't, then it's either corrupt or you need to extract it with a specific program.

As goflyblind, you should have StuffIt on OSX (I believe it comes standard). Since riffs are mp3 files that have been ZIPPED, you need to unzip them first before you can add them to your iTunes library.

Stuffit expander does not come standard as part of MacOS 10 these days.  It did in the early versions of MacOS 10, but hasn't for awhile now.

However, you don't need it to expand zip archives.  The finder in MacOS 10 should know what app it needs to run to expand a .zip file.  You won't need stufit expander for that.

I am having the same problem with Monkey See, Monkey Do and Safe Living at School. The other shorts I downloaded play just fine on my new iPad. I don't know if the problem is downloading or playback, but when I try to play them, all I get is an arrow w/a no sign over it.

goflyblind

do they also refuse to play on your computer, or just on the ipad?

Have you tried all the different formats? Not sure if VLC still exists for iPad anymore but you could try playing them in that. We have heard from one other iPad person that they haven't had issues lately so I'm not sure what to say. (We also lack one in house so we can't exactly test it, I'm afraid.)

FWIW, I download the MPEG files, and then run them through Handbrake to convert them to an iPad-friendly format.  I must admit I haven't played all of the shorts on my iPad, but the ones I have played have worked out fine.

I have noticed that a few of these videos (meaning "the ones I made via Handbrake") will not play on my MacOS/PPC 10.4 mac at home, although they play fine on my MacOS/Intel 10.6 machines, and play fine on my iPads.  So, my guess is that older versions of quicktime might run into trouble with them.
