Unsure.  Not sure if making the live events a theatrical exclusive is something we're going to be doing in the future, but it's a possibility.

As someone who couldn't make it to this show I sure hope they release it on DvD,I want to hear the new script.

Or at least release a new audio MP3 to go with the (already-purchased) DVD.  I, too, would like to hear the new script.

I am also in support of live events not being exclusive.  I am virtually house-bound, so going to a theater is out of the question for me (I've managed to try it four times in the last 10 years and physically paid for it for over a week afterwards each time).

I would like to throw my vote in for any and every DVD they could release...  I would love every Rifftrax Live they do (the fantom into theaters thing) put to DVD, because there's lots of fun moments and jokes and on-the-spot bits that are great to have on DVD.  (ie, Kevin running around with his fancy headdress.)

I am not sure I like the idea of them doing live shows NOT broadcast and then releasing those to DVD, so you either had to be there at the time or buy the DVD.... I do like the idea, simply because that's more stuff I never had the money to go see, but I'm not fond of the idea, because it makes the Fantom events fewer and far between and less selection for the events.

...if that makes any sense...

If they for some reason lost the Fantom thing completely, then I'd LOVE more live DVD's of just random shows they do!!!  That's one thing I love about the CT live dvd's, is that I have only ever once been able to go see them.

Personally, I'd prefer more energy going into the actual Rifftrax releases...  I still don't see why the "one a month or every other month" thing is going on.  I'd at least be happy for two a month.  One big name thing and one older movie.  But I repeat myself....
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.

I'm with Unabeefer: I'd much rather that energies go into the 'regular' [MP3] RiffTrax releases for feature films than anything else (live events, shorts, etc.).

I realize the guys probably want to break things up so that it doesn't get monotonous for them, but maybe a RiffTrax Convention once a year (like the old MST3K ones) could take care of that?  If such a thing were happening, and discussed well in advance, it would also make it so that people could make plans to actually go to such a thing.  I wouldn't be able to make it to any, but others could, and it would give the guys a chance to meet the fans rather than 'working in boxes' all the time (either their offices or recording studio).

I suspect it actually has more to do with getting a larger audience of the kind that aren't prepared to go through the "hassle" of the Rifftrax method. (And maybe spreading the word and building the brand.)

I would have also thought that would make the DVDs useful, but maybe for the production vs sales it just doesn't make sense? If that's the case, please offer them to download at least (though I would prefer a DVD).

*Completely baseless speculation*

Well, maybe - we live in an insular world where everybody likes Rifftrax, so it might seem that way, but once you get to number of units that need to be produced to make it cost effective vs "normal" people who will buy a Rifftrax DVD (or people who know what Rifftrax even is)... it might not be quite in line.

But then, one would hope these live events will raise people's awareness and lead to more DVD sales, especially of the live events they actually saw.

But if the production costs are the problem, surely we should be able to get them as a download option?

One reason I could think of to keep a Fathom event exclusive to theaters only, is to get the people who are waiting for a DVD into a theater.  If they make it known that a given event will be on DVD then there is probably a good percentage of people that will just wait for a DVD release to buy/torrent what have you. If they don't have enough attendance to the theater then there won't be any more theater events.

Looks like we'll be releasing the reefer show on dvd after all.  but you're right, knowing that a show will eventually be out on on DVD probably does keep people from coming to the theater.  But then again, there's always people who couldn't have made it anyways, didn't have a theater nearby or don't live in the country, who want to see it on DVD.

Yeah, this is sadly a definite possibility.  Hopefully good word of mouth from the Reefer show gets people to come out for HoHH.  Not sure what else we can do in terms of putting on a great show, didn't hear from a single person who didn't enjoy Reefer.

Conor

Also "sadly" is not entirely a valid way to put it, because our new internet streaming setup is looking pretty sweet, and that will be able to fill in live performance gaps between any theatrical shows very nicely.  But, as anyone who has been to one of the three fathom shows knows, it is a pretty sweet, unique experience to see them in a theater with a ton of people and contagious laughter.

It's great news that the DVD is coming out.

I don't know how the numbers have been from show to show, but I hope they are steady?

I know I would both attend and buy the DVD were it an option for me.
