I rewatched Bird on a Wire the other day on a whim and it made me wonder what everybodys favourite Romantic Comedy was.  I must admit to having a fondness for the 30s and 40s screwball comedies starring people like Katharine Hepburn and Irene Dunne, but I think there's been some decent efforts in recent years too, like The Wedding Singer or 40 Year Old Virgin.

I'll have to split my list into two sections.

Romantic Comedies That Other People Actually Believe Are Romantic Comedies:
When Harry Met Sally
Notting Hill
While You Were Sleeping
It Happened One Night (more of a screwball comedy, but it certainly influenced enough romantic comedies to count)
The Shop Around The Corner (which I see as more of an ensemble piece about the people in the shop, but it was remade as You've Got Mail, so it must count)

Odd Choices That I insist Count As Romantic Comedies Even Though Other People Scratch Their Heads When I Include Them:
Back to the Future (Boy meets girl, girl falls for the wrong boy, but the right boy gets her in the end. The only difference between this and a normal romantic comedy is that we see it from the perspective of the wrong boy, who happens to be her son from the future.)
The Office UK Finale (I still tear up when Tim and Dawn get together. Love the American version, too, but Jim and Pam didn't affect me nearly the same way.)
Futurama: Bender's Big Score (Fry sacrifices his own happiness for Leela's, several times. That's the most romantic thing ever.)
Shaun of the Dead

There are probably a few I'm forgetting.

Plastic Self-Cleaning Duck

#3
Holiday (Hepburn and Grant)
The Philadelphia Story
His Girl Friday
The Women
(romantic because of the way it discusses love - the original, of course since the remake BLEW!)
First three "Thin Man" films (after that they pushed it too far)
When Harry Met Sally
My Best Friend's Wedding
Moonstruck

Xanadu kind of counts because it was supposed to be a romantic musical comedy....even though the intended humor bombed ("Tuesday is Wednesday") and it is funny for a whole different reason.

Feel like I'm forgetting one but that would be it for me.  I'm really not into those kind of movies. In fact, most of them I despise.

EDIT: While You Were Sleeping....how could I forget it?  I just read it!  Duh!
