A buddy of mine is a convention fanatic, and he's met practically all of the cast of Battlestar Galactica and Serenity.  He says most of them were really nice (and Katee Sackhoff was wearing an extra low shirt for the boys, apparently).  The only person he had a problem with was Carrie Fisher, who you weren't allowed to ask questions.

As for Battlestar Galactica, for those living in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area or nearby, this year's All-Con will have both Kate Vernon(Ellen Tigh) and Lucianna Carro(Kat Katraine) as guests!! All-Con is similar to Dragon Con, in that the celebrities are expected to mingle with the crowd, and are not required to be hidden behind a table on a dais.  http://www.all-con.org/

I met Carrie Fisher last year at a Sci Fi Con in Plano, TX, and there were similar rules. Originally, they said no pictures at all, but then they changed their minds and said we could take a picture of her, not with her. Weird. I can see the reason behind "no pictures with her" to keep the line moving. "No questions" I can't understand. Must have been because of the drugs.   ;)

Perhaps she just gets tired of the same questions.  "Did you really do lines of coke with Harrison Ford on the set of Star Wars?" Can get pretty old after the 300th time.   ;)

Speaking of getting asked the same question for the umpteenth time...

If you ever meet Joss Whedon, creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Firefly & Angel, ask him "Why do you always create these strong women characters?"

;D

sarcasm_made_Easy

uh im glad this thread exists otherwise i might not get that pop culture reference, and speaking of which HOW DOES MIKE GET THEM??!?!?!?!  one of the mods said he doesnt even have a tv and by his own admission he doesnt have cable.

I have a habit of meeting, not famous people, but people behind the scenes for shows and what not. I met a very nice fellow who does camera work for a production company for the History Channel, then I met the guy who apperantly was one of the main folks who helped create the Rampage videogame, one of Elivis' bass players, ect. ect..

Well, as for Rachel Ray, getting rid of her is as easy as changing the channel. I do admit that she is a bit annoying, but frankly Oprah annoys me even more. I think that she suspects she's God now.

Mike wrote about Foodnetwork in his Megacheese book.  I'm fairly certain he's had a TV at some point in his life  ;)

Actually, I have wondered how much TV he actually watches or is the no TV at home thing just for the kids. Does he sneak off to some tawdry motel room to watch television?  JK, but he's awfully pop-culture literate for someone who doesn't ever WATCH television.  I would believe he doesn't have one in the house, I find it hard to believe he doesn't keep up with what's on and doesn't watch occasionally somewhere.  I think those kinds of references are expected of him so it would be a part of his job to at least be exposed to them (but I guess you don't have to really watch to know a little about the crap that's on TV).

Poor guy.  Part of his job is to know about crappy TV and actors and another part is to watch extremely crappy movies, like BE.  He either has the most wonderful or most horrible job on Earth!
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

Again I must come to Rachel Rays defense... first off, I have watched 30 minute meals several times, and all the things she cooks on the show is very healthy, cooked with virgin olive oil, which as any nutrition textbook will tell you is GOOD for the heart. 2nd off, Rachel Ray doesn't pick or putz around the kitchen like Martha Stewart does. So if you want to pick on someone, pick on Martha Stewart for her pickiness and her anal retentive qualities, but NOT Rachel Ray for showing us how to cook a good meal in half an hour! >:( As for her being "mean", I'm gonna tell you a little something about TV and Movie personalities right now: They cannot be cheery ALL the damn time! I mean I bet even Mike Nelson has been angry a time or two in his life... especially when working TGI Fridays. One instance of anger does not qualify a person as a "Meanie", now if they hit bellboys with a telephone or beat the crap out of people all the time, then I would say that that person is a "meanie", but I think there is not nearly enough evidence to even dream of labeling her in such a way...

AmandaGal

EVOO is still a fat and, as with any fat, if you overuse it, it's not good for you.  She uses a ton of EVOO, way to much.  She uses it in every dish.  I admit, I don't watch her a lot because I don't like her but every figure friendly dish I've ever seen was very high on the calorie and fat scale.

It's like wine, yeah it's good for you but if you drink a bottle a day, you're probably a drunk and not doing it for heart health.

I guess she's healthier than someone like Emerill though.

And she wasn't only mean from Amanda's standpoint, but also in Saucy's story. And she was on an entire different continent. How could you be mean to someone who's tribe is slowly being killed away by genocide?(I assume)

You know what I like: Internet recipes, because text is not full of itself.

Ya know, I really only watch 2 networks these days (Outside of The Simpsons/Family Guy/American Dad on Sunday Nights) and they're Comedy Central and Cartoon Network. Mike's never done a single CC or CN based joke, and I still get every one of his TV-Based jokes. I think there are some shows that the world watches for you. :^)

What about Mal, is his attitude like his namesake? or Jayne?

From all that I've heard, Nathan Fillion is also a really nice guy.

A brief ancedote that I've heard from some gamer friends of mine:
QuoteSo it's Saturday afternoon at GenCon SoCal this past weekend and my Gurps Firefly game I'm running seems to be going quite well, the adventure is building toward a slam-bang finale and everyone's doing great with their characters, the roles from the show.

Then it all gets surreal when Nathan Fillion, the actor who plays Captain Malcolm Reynolds in the series, shows up and sits down to play.

Turns out he had been signing autographs elsewhere on the showfloor and one of my players very nicely asked if he'd stop by. For all his awesomeness, he did.

An incredibly nice guy, we clued him in on the scenario, went over the character sheets with him -- he got a crack out of some of the quirks I had written up for the "Mal" character -- and he rolled some dice with us.

... He mostly just hung with us for a while but for a few, brief moments he tried his hand at playing River, an NPC in the game. No, I'm not joking.

But, honestly, it's not like any of us could actually *concentrate* on the game what with others running up and camera flashbulbs going off...

This was around 2004, IIRC. It's possible that he's become a jerk since then, but I haven't heard anything contrary  to the "nice guy" opinion from recent con appearances.

It's called point of view. And you know if either of them didn't like Rachel Ray in the first place that may cause events to be blurred in their mind to favor an altered version of events they prefer to remember, and not what actually happened, or who said what. If there is one thing I know from listening and observing people's behavior and attitudes for years, it's that they love to exaggerate events, and turn sarcasm into truth. It's kind of like after I saw the phantom menace in summer of '99. For days afterwards I could have sworn it was a much better movie than it actually was... and obviously I was wrong.

Rachel Ray......... he show must only be watched with the MUTE on.  I swear, she is the Modern Day Mary Hart; I bet there are a lot of people suffering seizures when she talks.   She makes food that people can make at home without using 50 pots and pans at every meal, but my god, that voice just kills me.

Giada......... makes food that the average person could make, does NOT require the mute and should have more close ups.

Sandra Lee ....... her food looks like crap (open a can of this, a can of that, and stir), does NOT require the mute and should be forced to wipe off the "New Orleans Hooker" eye make up.    She scares me.

Paula Deen ...... if you like butter, here you go.

There are plenty of close-downs, as in her hands and the food and utensils, what we need is more close-slightly-ups, as in between her head and hands...

And super over-the-top southern stereotypes.

J-Proof

Now in Ray's defense, as many have stated, there ARE tv-fems that are more annoying than her - but that doesn't mean she can't be the butt of a good joke =)

Now, as for a top ten list of annoying fem-personalities, here's mine

10. Oprah Winfrey - How the heck did you get so big anyway? By having a book club? Whatev....
9. Diane Sawyer - Stop looking like everything anyone tells you is super confusing...please....
8. Paris Hilton - Here's why you're annoying: You're not really a tv "personality" yet you're EVERYWHERE....
7. Anna N-Smith - Why the hell does anyone care about you?
6. Fran Drescher - See #3 on the list.
5. Michelle Rodriguez - I like you, I really do - but in LOST you were like, unsexy and dead for most of it.
4. Sandra Lee - We can TOTALLY tell what items you are continually....tweaking.... on your body.....
3. Rachel Ray - I can't even watch you with the mute button clicked.... I can STILL hear you....
2. Barbara Walters - Journalism? .... Whatev'....
1. Rosie O'Donnell - We get it. Shock value is all you can earn a paycheck with anymore.... I'm sorry for you.

I can think of a lot of fem-celebs that acquaintances have met that were all really nice, genuine people: Giada DeLaurentiis, Gillian Anderson, Jewel, Kelly Pickler.... list goes on, but it's much easier to identify annoying people is it not? ;)
J to the Pizzo
P to the Jizzay...
