Man, that's a can I would not want to open, I don't care how good the label looks...

While I was stationed in Germany, I was approached by a member while out shopping off-post at a local shopping center. Much in the same way you get accosted here at the local mall by part time college students working for a p.r. firm or ad agency with their little 'opinion surveys'.  Anyway we sat down,a nd he did his best to explain things to me from dianetics.  Little did he realize that being mildly ADD, I have a verrry short attention span.  What I was able to grasp, albeit a bit oversimplified, is that essentially man has complete and utter control of his own fate and destiny.  That can be amazingly seductive to all sorts of upwardly mobile professionals.  That all their success is derived only from themselves and that they don't need help from anyone. Sort of the 'power of positive thinking' on crack...

do you mean "don't"

and come on, "church" isn't the greatest term is it...it's a faith based on the ramblings of a BAD science fiction writer...remember, L. Ron is the real architect behind Battlefield Earth

sarcasm_made_Easy

No i meant what i said/typed.  If you are in control of your destiny then why are you poor or ugly or any other sort of affliction.  Clearly joining their cult hasnt fixed that

Ohhh...I gotcha now. Yeah, I'm with you there

Oh but you see the mentally ill people they target save thousands of dollars on medication or other forms of psycho-active therapy, so it will pay off in the long run.

Speaking of the Simpsons, Nancy Cartwright (voice of Bart) is a Scientologist and apparently there was suppose to be a joke in one of the episodes where Bart refers to Mormonism as the "second freakiest religion in America" but she refused to do it.  I wonder why...

Goshzilla

You know what, I think John Travolta should demand a refund for all the money he spent on Scientology, because it's obvious that religion has done nothing for his career. I present Battlefield Earth as exhibit A, with other pieces of evidence such as Look Who's Talking, and Swordfish.

macleod

Yeah, you always gotta love it when your religion operates celebrity centers...

Not trying to defend them, if anything, quite the opposite....

When his career was revitalized after Pulp Fiction, John was the cool guy again, reliving those glory days he didn't see since Saturday Night Fever. But then, well, this movie came out and surely his image as a cool guy eroded down to the same level he was at when he did Look Who's Talking 2... Pulp Fiction I think was the climax, and now we are just seeing a slow decline.

I would say "Phenomenon" and "Michael" were the real big nails in Travolta's comeback coffin.

Nancy is a member ?  thats most depressing.
