High School Big Shot

Does anyone know if/when an official DVD release for Maniac will happen?

Watchman

It's been on DVD for a decade, released by Kino Video on a double-bill with 1933's Narcotic (predating Reefer Madness by several years).

No official word yet. There's bad news about this title and good news. The bad news is that Maniac isn't selling very well in it's current digital state, despite the fact that you don't have to worry about finding the movie on your own and syncing the riff to it. The good news is that it will probably sell better with the customers who prefer buying DVDs. As to when the DVD is coming out, they usually release them at least two at a time and then offer them together as a special deal where you get some kind of bonus. Maybe Maniac will get a DVD release the same time that The Boy In The Plastic Bubble does.

Yeah....creepy, huh?  And when you're getting started that's considered a step UP from Disembodio's Squadio....   :P

Doctor Who?

I do not understand why this movie did not sell well.  It's the perfect rifftrack.  The really sad thing is that the poor sales of thins one most likely mean we will not be getting any more old movies like this one.

Could also be...

  • People aren't comfortable with their internet connection (it's slow or cuts off in the middle of downloads) or they don't have enough space on their hard drive or not enough confidence in their computer skills for VOD (there's yet another new "I need help with a VOD" post that inspired this)?
  • The good copy of Maniac on DVD is Kino's...and even though it's two movies it's not the cheapest thing?
  • People aren't big on PD movies off the internet?
  • Or....and this could be a big one.....they saw that VODs were starting to be released as DVDs not long after and they figured "This time I'll wait"....?

I'll add another: there seem to be a lot of people that refuse to watch black and white films.

For the internet connection issue, if other DVD downloads are selling then why not this one?  Assuming others are selling better.  I'm also assuming that people with slow connections download the smaller versions (.mp4), is there an mp4 for Maniac?, I only buy the DVD image files so don't have any other format listed in my files.

That was part of my point...previous attempts to buy VODs caused them problems and they've decided it's not worth it anymore.

Or again that since previous VODs have come out as physical DVDs shortly after, why not just wait this time.

But your point about it being black and white is a very good one.

And then there's the one I see here but will never understand (especially about an episode of MST3K) - "I couldn't watch that episode. The movie was bad".

Duh.

I'd rather be a Cat Eyeball Eater, since I'm generally not involved in drinking or rape. I haven't seen Crossroads, don't plan to. I'll just make a deliberately wrong assumption that Dan Ackroyd rapes Britney Spears while drinking blue beer. In spirit, I'd like to think I'm still part of the Squadio.

You're missing out. It was one of the first Rifftrax that my friend and I saw and it's still one of our favorites.
