Hello!

Can someone check the md5sum for NewMoon_RiffTrax.zip please? The downloads page lists "cbcd217c308ba916f172213f24e786be" but I keep downloading it and get this "1c9fd018b21dcdcca5937ac84d39c58f".
I have not had a problem with the files not matching before. Just to be sure I rechecked several of my other downloads and they are all good. I didn't check all, but I did check several of them. It is just New Moon that isn't matching.

Thanks.

First, Thanks for the prompt reply.

Second, the md5sum is still wrong.

I have no way to check at the moment (at home) but you might want to try downloading the file again - this is the first time I've heard of such an issue, and given how popular this one is I'm sure we would have heard about it sooner. I'll check when i get in the office in the AM...sorry for the delay in response as well.
Any issues with the RiffTrax main page should be directed to support@rifftrax.com Attempts to engage with me directly about such matters will result in ridicule.

Thank you for checking.

The reason why I am concerned is that I have downloaded this file multiple times using multiple computers across two different OS's (just checked again with yet another download). Each file has resulted in the same "1c9fd018b21dcdcca5937ac84d39c58f" md5sum and the download counter has never gone up on my downloads pages (still lists as 0 downloads but other past downloads appear to have incremented).

I am not sure if there is something weird on my end, Rifftrax, or somewhere in between. That is why I was hoping someone else could check and see if they were getting the same md5sum results.

Thanks again for checking.

Are both machines on the same internet connection? If so, what type of connection is it? I've seen fairly consistent download interruptions on some slower networks.

Can you try on the old files page? (Go to the "My Account" page and click "Purchased Files"). I want to know if one works better than the other.

I guess I should take it that the file on the server reports the proper md5sum then?

That page initially showed 0 downloads as well. However, it updated to one download when the download started. That is something the other page never did so good news there.

However, I still got the exact same md5sum.

Every time so far the NewMoon_RiffTrax.zip file is always 57344683 bytes and has the md5sum "1c9fd018b21dcdcca5937ac84d39c58f".

I just downloaded several more files never previously downloaded and they all came out ok. So I tried downloading the NewMoon_RiffTrax.zip again as well as downloaded NewMoon_RiffTraxPAL.zip for the first time.

Same exact size and md5sum for NewMoon_RiffTrax.zip yet again.
NewMoon_RiffTraxPAL.zip came out to be 59317495 bytes with an md5sum of "7ebc312a28ac0130a550fe8c9e08df83". This does not match what is listed on the page.

I don't understand why all the other md5sums are working but NewMoon fails consistently (and so precisely and accurately in the same place every time). I am sure you guys have seen a lot of really weird things when it comes to downloads so I will do as suggested and I will try again on a different connection (I will be at a friends later this week and can try then). I just wanted to verify that the problem was on my end before I wasted a bunch of time trying to track this down.

As long as I know that someone *has checked*....which has yet to be stated ;)

Thanks for the help.

Just tried a friends connection on a different computer with a different OS. Still the exact same size "57344683" and the same md5sum "1c9fd018b21dcdcca5937ac84d39c58f".

Has somebody checked the server? Does anybody get the right md5sum?

goflyblind

why does this matter? i just downloaded the file, got the same md5 sum you did, and it unzipped without problems. also, random selections from the mp3 played just fine. ???

It sounds to me like the zipfile is being truncated... but I can't be sure. No one else has reported this issue... could you try unzipping it in another program? Not that that'll do any good but it's worth a shot.

Grand scheme it doesn't. I just like to know that my download isn't corrupt. Md5sum's should match. That is the whole point in having md5sum hashes to begin with. The entire purpose of a md5sum hash tag is to ensure that you are not getting a partial file, a corrupt file, or a file that has been tampered with in some way. I just want to know that my file is a complete unmolested file.

And yes, I realize that I fit into the sub 1% of RiffTrax fans that cares about md5sum's but if RiffTrax is going to provide them they should make sure they are right. If they are right on the server yet people are downloading copies that don't match, then there is a problem. Maybe it isn't malicious; maybe it is. It is still a problem.

Thank you. I now have someone that is completely independent from me who has verified that the md5sum provided is wrong. So either the Rifftrax server is uploading a corrupted file or someone goofed and put a wrong md5sum hash on the downloads page. Ten days after my original post I finally have someone else who is unrelated to me in any way and can confirm that the md5sum is different!

See? It wasn't that hard to check afterall!  ;D

The md5sum is for the zip file. The mp3 has a different hash tag altogether. For no other reason then "Just because." I did use two different zip utilities. The mp3 hash sum is "cc1f2715d7a5cb11ae173c24c39d7e60"

As for no one else reporting this issue, again I am probably in the sub 1% range of people who care about the md5sum's. However, RiffTrax provides them so I will use them. Before I saw goflyblind's post, I logged in to mention that I contacted a friend 300+ miles away who had also purchased New Moon. His md5sum hash matches mine. He never noticed.

I don't know why the m5sum doesn't match. That is what I am trying to figure out. I have a good chunk of evidence that says it isn't a problem on my end. The question still remains, why doesn't the md5sum match?

Thanks to everyone that is trying to help me solve this!

The md5sum is still wrong. Will someone please fix this?

Thank you.

bettertomorrowamy

Jesus Christ will someone fix his midsum....how can this stand?  I am forming a class action lawsuit.

Just bought a bunch more Rifftrax. All of their md5sum's match (hooray!) but 7 weeks after my first post, NewMoon_RiffTrax.zip still doesn't...

What's the deal?

god hates you. :(

Apprently he hates the md5sum. 4 months after the original posting and it still isn't fixed. Is this one of those 6 month turn around bug fixes? I thought only Microsoft did that...
