Dumb newbie question no. 2

This will probably sound even dumber than the videotape question.  Each rifftrax contains the riffing AND the movie soundtrack too, right? Or is it just  them riffing and you have to listen to the TV and your MP3 player at the same time?

hope I'm not yet over my dumb question limit yet

BathTub

Just the riffing. containing the soundtrack as well would be a lot more troublesome, both practically and legally.

That doesn't seem likely...  But seriously, folks around here are a whole lot less likely too come down on a newcomer as in other boards.  and just remember....

Okay, then it's time for dumb question number 3. If it only has the riffing, and you're listening to that on your MP3 player with your headphones on, then exactly HOW are you supposed to hear the movie at the same time?

Thom_Serveaux

I suppose  you could have the volume turned up just a little bit more on the movie.  Then again, considering the fact that just like when watching the movies on MST3K, sometimes the guys riff sometimes drown out the movie.  Also just like when watching the movies on MST3K, that can be more of a blessing in disguise....

Adjust the volumes appropriately? Use a stereo instead? Mix them on your computer? There are a few options available.

Do you only have giant headphone instead of the little earphones?

BathTub

Oh and we would rather you ask questions than go off frustrated and unable to enjoy the rifftrax.

sarcasm_made_Easy

there are no dumb questions, except for timmys.

I have the little earphones too. Is that how a lot of you watch them? Adjusting the volume on them to appropriate levels works okay to enjoy these things? I don't have a cd burner and I have no idea what you mean by computer mixing, so I suppose my only option are the little earphones or headphones.

MrTorso

The Rifftrax mp3s are mono so you only need one ear to hear the riff.

Don't worry, I'm reasonably sure he's joking around with you. (Bathtub's post I mean) There has been talk of RiffTrax developing  a player that would automatically sync the DVD & the RiffTrax together.  I also seem to recall someone mentioning one already out there called "Shaecrow' that's supposed to do the same thing.  Me personally, I'm too cheap do go out and buy a DVD player, at least not while I've got my trusty 'ol ps2.   I'll more than likely just play the DVD on that and run the Rifftrax on my computer. since they're almost side by side when I'm at my computer it's almost like listening to it in sensaround!

There are threads else where on how to enjoy the rifftrax but I will give you a couple of options with what I have done to watch them.
1. The easiest way to enjoy it imo, is either buy a pair of  cheap pc speakers or use some that you have around and set them up wherever you desire, then plug your mp3 player into the speakers and then watch the movie on your tv. That way you have two separate audio sources which is much more enjoyable of an expierence than watching it with head phones.

2. This is something I do and I would be curious to find out how many other people do it. I have a surround sound system with a dvd player hooked up to it, and also my xbox 360 hooked up to the tv. I play the dvd on the 360 with the audio from that coming thru the tv, then I burn a mp3 cd of the rifftrax and play it on my surround sound system. It usually sounds really great and since the rifftrax is mono it only comes from the front speakers and to me it sounds like a really good mix.

Well, I do it a couple diffferent ways. Neither are ideal, but work fine. I'll either listen to it on my Ipod (with earbuds) & crank the TV volume a little higher, or plug the Ipod into its JBL speaker & adjust the TV volume to our liking.

Eventually I'll take the time to learn how to mix the mp3 & movie together. Some folks on the forum have posted some great guides.

Welcome  ;D

I don't get the joke? Those were all serious suggestions.  ???

Sharecrow is a program that is older than rifftrax, is it designed to sync up an mp3 commentary to a dvd, works fairly well but has a steepish learning curve. There is a new beta floaring around which is meant to be much easier to use. there is another 'Rifftrax Player' made by a forum member which has nothing to do with legend films. Which is a modified interface for WMP iirc.

I appreciate your clarification on the matter BathTub......
