I purchased the Avatar riff, last night.  I got the disk all ready, and went to start up the RiffPlayer.  Then FAIL, only the MP3, no .RIFF file for it to play.   :grr:  So, I have to jump through hoops to have my movies made fun of.

I last purchased Twilight, to watch with my wife.  It was easy to set up, and we had fun.  I just stuck the disk in an viola, it played.

Now I have to manually use an external player, or follow the rip/demux/remux/burn instructions.  Ouch.

Not happy.

(I really like you guys, enjoy your events, and point my friends at your products.  That is why this makes me sad.)

The rifftrax player doesn't even work for most people and certain DVDs are encoded in a way that making .riff files is impossible  which is why they stopped supporting it and are working on a replacement for it. Until then you can tell which riffs have files for it on the product pages. At the top of the page you'll see NTSC, PAL, RIFF, and VOD listed. If just the first two are shaded in black that means they have mp3s only. If RIFF is filled in they have a riff file for it.

Understood.  Now.  Didn't even know it was an issue, till it was too late.

What about to old Sharecrow player?  http://www.sharecrow.net/Rifftrax.htm

Yes, unfortunately newer movies are for the most part not compatible with the player.  They use different copy protection/encoding schemes.  We're sorry about that.  We're still trying to create the .riff files when we do older discs.

I'm with you, lunadude.

My frequent purchases have stopped cold since the Rifftrax player ceased to function.  I rarely have time to sit down and watch a whole movie in one sitting, and I loved being able to watch a chapter or two at a time, almost daily.  The Rifftrax player made that convenient.

Maybe if they paid someone to program a new player, they'd recoup their investment when sales from people like us resume.  Instead, we wait while volunteers get around to it, and in the meantime we buy nothing. :(
