By now, everyone knows the story of how Avatar single-handedly changed moviemaking forever.  Its visionary director (whose name escapes us, you know the one, he's that guy who didn't win an Oscar this year) proved that progressive films can succeed in today's marketplace.  As long as progressive means "completely unoriginal and devoid of depth" and the high praise heaped upon the work is entirely based upon it being nice to look at.  In this sense, Megan Fox is a progressive actress, and The Hills was the most important television show of the last 10 years.  It is truly a bold, experimental piece of work, keeping in mind that crystal meth and fat substitute Olestra (which brought the phrase "anal leakage" into our lexicon) were also the results of experimentation.

For those of you who haven't seen it (*cricket cricket*), Avatar is the story of just how pretty a jungle planet can look in 3D, and maybe there are some people fighting in it or whatever.  It's also a great refresher on some of your favorite 90s action movie dialogue clichés.

Mike, Kevin, and Bill implore you to "GO GO GO!" and "MOVE MOVE MOVE!" lest you be "s*** out dead without warning" before enjoying Avatar!

The DVDs and Blu-rays are a rip off. NO extras what so ever...

Sarcasm?  People have been talking about this for months...  The multi disk set with extras comes out in November, this is the "money grab" release while it's still fresh in peoples' minds from the theatrical release.  ;D  It's a long movie so every bit of space on the disk (even the BD) is needed for the movie.

Anyone already rip it, to see if they really used all 8GB on the DVD?

Rattrap007

guess I'm just paying for the DVD and skipping the Blu ray.

The m2v is 6.3 gigs. Sheesh that's a lot of bytes.

I compressed it to a 4.7g with Shrink and after running it through Pinnacle and adding the RiffTrax, it put it down to 44% quality from original :o

The combo pack is only a few dollars more right now at Target and Walmart, for a movie that's all about the graphics BD is the way to watch it, with the sound low and the Rifftrax cranked up.  ;D

What?  those liars, that means there was enough room left for trailers and a few short features.... >:(

Edit: are there a lot of language tracks?  maybe that takes up the extra gig of disk space.

Looks like just English, Spanish and French. Subtitles for all languages too. There is a 2 channel English AC3, but nothing on the box about any commentary. I dunno.

I leave the Spanish audio (and subs if available) on my discs to take with me to Mexico for the wife's family to enjoy 8)

Great stuff!! The riffing is good, of course, but seeing that short bit in the sample made me feel like a 5 year old who was being reprimanded by a hippie for swatting a bug.  :-\

Ben

Does anybody know if the theatrical cut will also be available on the "special edition" due out in November, seeing as how that's the version Mike & Co. have riffed? I hate double dipping... :(

Nice solo there, Disembaudio.

Really, is this worth getting? I am one of the few on Earth who have not seen this and don't really plan to. But I may watch it pure for the riff if it would be worth having to watch through a couple of hour cutscene.
