Will video tapes work?

I have VHS copies of a few of the rifftraxed films. Will they work with rifftrax or do I need to get the DVDS?

Alleged's Theorum:

Analog format movie + additional humorous digital audio track = a great viewing experience.

Actually,

analog format movie + additional humorous digital audio track + cold alcoholic beverages = a fantastic viewing experience.

I got X-Men at the library on VHS and regardless of it probably being played hundreds (or a couple) of times it worked just as well as any DVD or DiVX file I've used

I found a few rifftrax VHS videos at my mom's yard sale and they worked great.

Now, as for DIVX files, I guess I'm not the cyberpirate I think I am, because they are just way too much work, ime.  They never synch up just right and I spend lots of time trying to get the audio in synch and generally just give up.  I know one time it was a PAL/NTSC issue but other times, it wasn't that constant of a lag.

So much for my l33t hax0r skillz and claims at cyberpiratedom.  I'm the Jack Sparrow of cyberpirates I guess :-)
mike5150 how tall are you?.....in gallons?

BathTub

Yeah should work fine, except for stuff like Phantom Menace which is a different cut.

Alleged

VHS works just fine, I think the guys do a great job anticipating that viewers will use different formats of riffed movies.  I happen to have access to a large laserdisc collection, and watched Top Gun, Roadhouse, and Fifth Element that way.

Interesting, I didn't know that.  That's what Disembaudio is useful for, I suppose.

Darn.  Phantom Menace was one of the three tapes I had. The other two are Matrix and Star Trek V. They should be okay then?

BathTub

Yeah. I'd give SW a go too, just be aware there would be some fiddling, maybe leave it till last, see how you like the other 2.

Alleged

I'm sure all three will be fine.  And if there's a second or two off of SW Episode 1, I'm sure it's a matter of pausing the VCR until the Rifftrax catches up.

Greetings, New Poster!  As of now, my feelings toward you are completely neutral! May they remain neutral or better for many a month, before you say something that annoys me slightly until about a week later when I forget about it! Then, may they remain neutral again!

(And for the record, I watched TPM on VHS as well because I refuse to hand over any more money to Darth Lucas.  I had to pause during the pod racing scene.  Damned if Lucas didn't add at least a minute to that interminable scene).
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

I prefer VHS, let me know what you think about the format in this Poll http://www.rifftrax.com/smf/index.php?topic=1344.0 (lonely at the top... err is that the bottom)

Also, as far as Divx is concerned I did a simple google search and managed to find a free version of Nestor that I had no problems synching with the Rifftrax.

I figured my videos and "cheap-o" versions would do just fine. Well, they DIDN'T. (First I should tell you that I live in PAL country, but I naturally got the PAL downloads.) I bought four rifftrax recently and so far I've seen/listened to three of them. First Night of the Living Dead, where I had a colorized version on tape. The rifftrax sped away so much I couldn't get it to sync. Second I tried Plan 9 having a very cheap-o DVD version. No good here either. The rifftrax was running ahead at an alarming rate. Pausing was futile. I was beginning to despair. But when I reluctantly tried Lord of the Rings with the recommended PAL DVD version it worked like a charm.

Final analysis: When Mike says "Hey", we, the people, ought to listen. Dusty old videos and wrong version DVDs didn't sync up for me (just like he said they mightn't), and as a result I was too busy memorizing lines and approximating lapsed seconds to enjoy the riffing. But as per usual with this guy, when it's good it's GREAT.

Just a friendly reminder that there's a difference between being a rebel and a dummy.
Hell no. I've got less important things to do.

Unfortunately it is more like a minute or two.
