Defiantly,  especially in these troubling times. Now more relevant and funny than ever.
More relevant than during the Cold War?   ???

Maybe not from the cold war angle but many aspects of it resonate well in this age of terror and terrorism . Fear is fear then and now, replace a-bomb with anthrax and whadda u got ....
Yeah, I gotcha.  I just wanted to poke a hole in your "more relevant... than ever" comment.   ;)

Dirty hole poker!  ;D

Nothing happens in 2001 ???  It has more scope and a lot more happening then most movies, they just don't have people saying what is going on.  You are supposed to watch it and work it out for yourself.  Sorry rant over,it's just 2001 is the best Sci-Fi movie ever if you ask me.
Or just read the book.

Get the audio book? It's a really great sci-fi story, but if it's not your thing then just disregard.

I think someone already recommended Breaking Bad, but I'll recommend it as well. Just finished the first season and I've really enjoyed it so far.

Then you should knock off a good portion of the movies recommended here.  Some of the best movies make thinky parts hurt.*  That's what makes those ones good.

*I may have to include that into my vernacular.  I quite like it.   :)

I also can't stand 2001. In fact I think Kubrick is pretty over-rated as a whole. The Shining is amazing, as is Dr Strangelove. The first 30 minutes of Full Metal Jacket is one of the best movies ever made. After that I really couldn't care less for Kubrick.

I may have missed it being suggested by someone else, but the original Taking of Pelham One Two Three is an excellent movie. It is about a crime, but not celebrating the criminals so I think that aspect of it won't bother you. Worth a look, I think.
FINE

I prefer his earlier movies, like Paths of Glory and Killer's Kiss.

Yes.  It's also quite funny.  I'll suggest a couple more Walther Matthau movies:

Hopscotch
House Calls

I think they're both great.

Sadly, I think most Kubrick fans will agree with that in the case of Full Metal Jacket (though not his whole ouvre).

Tripe

You mean only the basic training part? I really like the stuff in country, FMJ is a pretty decent adaptation of The Short-Timers (though like, A Clockwork Orange, it doesn't include the final p[art of the story).

Watched this one yesterday.  I was glad Leno's agent got her comeuppance.  It would have been a deeply dissatisfying movie if she hadn't.

Overall it was an okay movie, but I found that the heavy entertainment industry lingo made it hard to follow and dragged it down a bit.

Also watched Chasing Amy on Friday.  Good movie, though I thought that Joey Lauren Adams' squeaky voice inhibited the drama, and made her emotions less believable.  My favorite part was Silent Bob's lecture explaining the title of the movie, trying to teach Holden a lesson, but Holden took the completely wrong thing away from it.  When Holden later suggested the 3-way, I thought he was joking, and that he'd come to his senses before the end of the scene.

I need to give Alyssa props for having the patience of a saint.  Holden was a real jerk.

Did you read his list of excluded types of movies? I think they cover almost every movie in that list. ;P
