Hey Gunflyer, I guess now's a good a time as any to ask the meaning of your user name "Gunflyer".
Because my brain keeps mixing it up with "Tailgunner", the Iron Maiden song!

"Climb into the sky never wonder why
Gunflyer, you're a Gunflyer"

heh! I never heard that before! I actually haven't listened to Iron Maiden in a VERY long time. I just came up with the name on the fly one day and I thought it sounded cool so I started using it. :) I didn't even know it was an Iron Maiden lyric, but that's pretty excellent, most triumphant!.  :D

Actually, I was substituting "Tailgunner" for "Gunflyer" like my brain does in reverse here. The actual chorus is:

"Climb into the sky never wonder why
Tailgunner, you're a Tailgunner"

Just meant to show how both my mind perceives both names involving flying & guns. Sorry for the confusion!

Um, I'll just leave this here...and slowly back out of the thread.

That was a fun, immensely enjoyable episode. Thanks again for posting, Barnes.

But I must confess.... I am a racist. You see, I have no desire to see Red Tails. And that can only mean one thing: I must hate black people. There's absolutely no other possible explanation for not wanting to see Red Tails. Is there? All movie criticism is just glorified racism.

So, going back to Plinkett's Episode II review for a moment, and what he said about the "urban market": Would you theorize that the ultimate, long term goal of Red Tails is to get more black people into Star Wars?

I always figured since I was born white, middle class, and in America, that whether I wanted to admit it or not, I had some prejudices.  After seeing this episode though, I am an out & out RACIST! :-[ :'(

Does anyone know if John Stewart ever pointed out many thousands of movies with all-black main casts before?

I watched that show, Stewart just went along with everything Lucas said.  Just shows the power Lucas has, he can say stuff like that an no one gets in his face about it.

I'm pretty sure if Lucas was anyone else, John Stewart wouldn't have been so silent.

Smith Dr John Smith

So I have not seen the show but from the comments here do I understand correctly that Lucas is claiming he made the first movie with an all black cast?

no but that the movie is being persecuted because of it having an all black cast. basically because its not an urban movie or a comedy.

I've seen Lucas on the Daily Show a couple of times.  What is up with the way Stewart treats him?  Maybe they are really good friends.  I don't know, but it just isn't his style to let folks like Lucas off so easily

What is up with the way anybody who can get close to him treats him? The relationships this guy has with people are bizarre. You only have to look to his relationship with Spielberg, one in which Spielberg does whatever the hell Lucas wants and then turns arounds and talks shit about him. It's as if people act a certain way when they're with him and then turn to each other behind his back and say "Oh, that's just George being George. He's a strange one!" Without knowing exactly what goes on behind the scenes, it's impossible to know for sure. We can only go on what's out there as public knowledge.

I do find it pretty offensive that he's somehow claiming to be a pioneer of African-American action films, especially since he's built this platform on what is apparently a pretty atrocious movie. Maybe nobody wanted to make it because it sounded like a piece of shit.
